todays ATM withdrawal rate is
1 Pound Sterling = 1.1941700000 Euro

Thanks sws97sdg - that is much better news than I had dared hope for - although the sum of my financial knowledge is based on BBC Teletext reporting of Tourist Rates and Pond Rates - totally confusing. Maybe see you at the hole-in-the-wall sometime!!

The 1.19 rate is the business rate, not tourist one.

The rate quoted isn't either its the rate set for ATM withdrawals by visa https://www.visaeurope.com/making-payments/exchange-rates

the rate will change soon as the pound is on the slide again after the interest rate cut!!

I think the question is how much will someone get out of a cash machine in PP at the moment.
Last night from Banca March (sic) I got 1.14 Euros to the pound.
Easy answer.

Is that what the your bank uses when the amount is taken form your account, how do you know, it usually takes a few days to show the withdrawal from your account?
I use a Halifax debit card in the ATM machines in PP and get the visa rate when the amount is debited from my account, you must choose the transaction in Euros though not sterling else you loose out twice.
If you are only getting 1.14, which is less than travel exchange rate, then it would be worth your while, getting euros from a bureau, it must still work out better even with the commission!!

I understand (from today's paper) that the exchange rate has worsened slightly
due to yesterdays 0.25% drop in bank rate!
The paper actually indicates a 'tourist rate' of 1.13E to the £.
As they say in the trade - better rates are available! What will be will be.

Have you tried no1 currency they have a shop in Reading ( next to KFC ). Their rate is 1.173.
