Hi - we are visiting PP in August and was thinking of hiring bikes - we have 2 children (9 & 14). I just wondered if there were some safe cycle routes in and around PP? are there any cycle paths to places nearby? Many thanks, Andrew

Hi Andrew, We have children or a similar age. We use Multihire, probably need to arrange at the start of your holiday to ensure bikes available, although bikes are much more popular when it's not so hot. The cycle lanes often run beside the main roads, ie the coast road. Can be a little worrying with a 9 year old. I suggest you cycle around the lanes between PP and the old town. They are quiet and cars are used to seeing bikes and usually slow down to pass.

The country lanes are certainly fairly free of traffic and we have hired bikes ourselves - it's a lovely, peaceful place to cycle surrounded by beautiful scenery. I would urge you however to take care as sometimes cars (especially locals who know the roads well) do travel at alarming speeds and they don't always slow down as they should when passing groups of cyclists. When we were over earlier this year we witnessed the aftermath of an horrific accident on a country lane where a car had simply been going too fast, lost control and hit a brick wall... The lanes are narrow, and sometimes winding, so you need to keep your wits about you (and hire cycling helmets!) I have to say also that some families who cycle together in PP have a tendency to do so three or four abreast, which obviously increases the danger and annoys the hell out of other road users...

........ I've found the worst offenders are some of the professional cyclists, also not using the cycle lanes and insisting on cycling on the roads!!!

LOL

I noticed this on a ride to Alcudia, with nine and ten year olds. Lovely flat ride, the windsurfers etc were a great sight near Alcudia.

What is it with some riders though?
