Feeling optimistic

Am I the only one deeply disturbed that today there were 54 flights from Germany to Palma, given that COVID rates are so much higher in Germany. Meanwhile, the Spanish won’t let us in, and our own government won’t let us out. So far 2021 has been far more disappointing to me than 2020, when we were able to visit our apartment 5 times. I wish the wonderful EU would stop posturing and get on with vaccinating. Rant over!!

Spanish are looking after their fellow Europeans. Be careful what you wish was for should have been the battle cry during the vote.

May 17th is the day the Uk has set provisionally for overseas travel so the Majorcan Hoteliers must want us even if the EU doesent

I am afraid that while there are still so many restrictions in force the hotels will not want to open and really who would want to come on holiday if they can't go out for dinner/drinks in the evening. Everything has to close at 5pm and we have a 10pm curfew.

I am struggling to keep my glass half full :(.

Your social media quote is welcome. We have Jet2 booked for a week at the Miramar, commencing May20th.

Jet2, without prompting or requesting, have twice put back the final payment balance date. It is now due April 8th. However, with all the uncertainty regarding opening up travel restrictions etc etc we are minded to cancel and loose our deposit (this outcome factored in when we booked in January). Time is short for a decision. We will need to advise Jet2 to cancel in time for them to stop any automatic debit on the plastic.

Ah well, stay calm and eat Mallorcan potatoes......

I have transferred my May holiday to September 2022 with Jet 2. Had already booked for May 2022. No loss of deposit, just a £1 fee to open a new booking account.
Jet 2 have been brilliant during the pandemic. We have been moving our dates from May and September 2019 without any problems or loss of deposit.
I suggeest you contact them by telephone and discuss with them.

We have cancelled our May Jet2 booking and rebooked the Miramar for the first week in October. I would add to Millars complements re Jet2. Their customer service has been exemplary throughout. I have a feeling it has cost me a few pounds (very low tens) to swap but certainly well worth it, and I don't be-grudge Jet2 a few extra quid in what is a very difficult time for everyone in the travel industry.

Keep calm and eat Mallorcan potatoes, me thinks.

Totally agree re Jet2 - we also had to cancel a few and received full refund almost immediately. When you read about people struggling to get refunds from other airlines, it makes you appreciate how good Jet 2 are regarding customer service:):)

It looks like lots of us are thinking about moving on to 2022, if not actually doing so, From my point of view, I totally agree with Sparky; who wants to go somewhere that basically closes at 5 p.m.? So looking forward to our family return to PP; will be distraught if it doesn't happen.

On the bright side, as nobody seems to be there at present, there will obviously be no trip reports.

So perhaps, as a second best, Clinkham could give us all a review of how the Majorcan potatoes taste this year. :)

Madam "S", if you are struggling to keep your glass half full, may I suggest you consume what's left and then just drink straight from the bottle.:)

Stay positive folks.....its only early April. Everyone is keeping a tight lid on it currently as they don't want to over promise and under deliver. Having said that, my confidence that my end of May trip will happen is waning slightly!

Pedro Sanchez has announced that the state of emergency in Spain will end on the 9th May, so hopefully things will return to normal ;).

According to the majorca daily bulletin restrictions are being eased from the 12th of April and you will no longer require a reason to enter Majorca however the terraces will still shut at 17:00.

Obviously you will still require proof of owning property in Majorca to be allowed to leave the UK. This does not affect holidaymakers.

Current restrictions on bars and restaurants will remain at least until 26th April.
I think this is grossly unfair because hotels can serve lunch and dinner inside, it doesn't make sense :(.

Whatever country you live in you have governments making up rules that don’t always make sense. In the U.K. I can have a tradesman (from goodness knows where) working in my house, but not my own family.

It seems the rules have the harshest effect upon the smaller businesses. Do the hotel groups have a stronger voice and better “connections”, I wonder? Not that I’m cynical or anything! LOL

Are we allowed to enter if we own a property, (once international travel is allowed by Boris)? I thought it was only to prepare to renting it out

Or to be involved in a purchase or sale.

Currently there is a loophole for travel for the above reasons. The latest info is based on travel from May 17th, which is now going to be based on traffic lights and testing. :(
