Fireworks in the square on 14th August

Forgive me if someone's already asked about this, but does anyone know what the fireworks in the square on the evening of 14th August were all about?
They were certainly loud (and potentially dangerous!). I've got 3 burn holes in my dress to prove it - think I got a bit TOO close !!

I am sorry if your dress got burnt but Spanish fiestas are not known for their health and safety, to be honest i am glad they are not as this is what makes them so enjoyable, you just need to keep your distance .
