Just back from 2 weeks and had good fishing. Took too much tackle, all I needed was a light telescopic spinning rod with reel (could have bought a cheap but barely adequate one there, there is a well stocked tackle shop between the Gola and Caprabo) and the right hooks.
Fishing from the pine walk area and the Gola, caught a dozen or so mullet, gold striped bream and a few perch-like fish, all on floating crust with straight hook to main line (ABU thin 8lb since you ask, could have been much lighter)
The technique I found successful was to attract the fish and get them feeding on the top with free offerings of bread, then cast a 1cm square of bread crust on a size 10 or 12 hook at the action. Watch the line, tighten down on a decent pull (bear in mind loads of littel fish will pull at the bait and you can't expect to hook more than 1 in 15)
I also saw bass and dorado in shallow water when wading or snorkelling up to about 2lb (best fish I caught were around 3/4 lb). If you were really keen I would suggest a fish or squid bait at night would be good for bass, or indeed barracuda.
I saw a yard long barracuda (yes, I had a good view and have no doubt that's what it was), in shallow water right outside the hotel Daina early one morning. Have seen them on earlier trips. You would need a wire trace, fairlly heavy gear and presumably a fish bait to be in with a chance, too much trouble for me to even think about it.
PS don't be greedy and take too many fish, right place and the right time it's easy to catch a big bag-go barbless and catch and release beyond a small self imposed limit. The bream and mullet are equally good baked, grilled or fried.
