Fornalutx is described as being one of the prettiest villages in Spain so we decided to visit in October 2004 and see for ourselves!

We took the road via Lluc to Fornalutx and it is a beautiful, winding route through the Tramuntana mountains. On the day we went, I think it was a Feast Day as the locals were unloading pic-nic baskets from their cars and heading off into the woods.

We parked very easily in the village in a small car-park (might be different in the height of summer) and wandered around the steep winding streets admiring the pretty houses and profusion of flowers and window boxes everywhere.

It seemed very quiet there and the views across the mountains are stunning.

We had a drink in a little restaurant with panoramic views that was situated on the main road into the village and soaked up the feeling of serenity that seemed to be everywhere in the area.

We went off to have lunch at Soller and a visit to Fornalutx can be combined with a day out on the west coast of Mallorca.

Sounds like a fantastic day. Mmmmmmmmmm. Have added this to our holiday plans for October 2005. Thank you.
I too as you know love the mountains, and the route up through Lluc is stunning.
Was it a Sunday that you went?. Families in mallorca spend Sunday together and often spend the day up in the mountains at all those nice picnic sites that have been provided.
Thank you Jane.

Everything is just as Jane described in 2005.
Fornalutx is well worth a visit. The village is very pretty and the journey from Pollensa old town took just over an hour today - about 50 Kms - the route along the Ma 10 twists and turns through the mountains and is very scenic - eventually just before you get to Soller you turn off left onto to Ma 2120 and drop down into the village.
The village reminded us in many ways of the hillside villages of Provence
There are 3 Aparciamentos in the village and we chose to drive down through the village to the last Aparcamiento on the left opposite Hotel Can Verdura..
We then walked back up through the beautiful village of stone houses to a little restaurant called Es Turo on the right as you climb the hill which has a terrace overlooking the valley and the surrounding mountains. The cuisine is Mallorquian. We just had a one course lunch - we both chose cod with aioli and sliced potatoes a la Mallorquian at 14 euros and both had a large beer at 2.75 euros - the food was delicious and the setting superb..
There are 3 or 4 charming restaurants but we were happy with our choice of El Turo and we will return some day
