Pollensa half marathon

Well just to let you all know, we made it round in 3 hours 40 minutes:)

I have to say a huge thank you to the people who sponsored me and my feet can confirm that although it was tough, it was worth every step.

After a tactical team meeting yesterday, the intrepid 5 set off from the Pollensa Cockerel roundabout at 8am as we decided to speed-walk the course and avoid the worst of the day´s heat. Armed with water, plasters and high spirits we set off for a beautiful 21 km walk which we were aiming to complete in 4 hours. We went from the roundabout along the main road past Cala St Vinent to the Port and turned off at the Seaplane roundabout by the big Eroski and along the back new road to the military base. From there we came towards the sea and cut onto the Pine Walk by the Pines Bar and along the Pine Walk to the 1919.

Then all along the front to Llenaire where a wave from family and friends who were supporting us, kept us going at the half way mark. We then cut through to the mini roundabout on the new road and down the Cami de Llenaire towards Pollensa. At the 15km mark, we were caught by the first of the runners - a single man who was really going at quite a pace without even breaking a sweat

We then came out on the main road that we´d walked along earlier but went straight accross to walk the last 3 km around Pollensa taking in the Calvari Steps and the Cloisters ...bands were playing, drummers were keeping us in pace and so many people were lining the streets cheering and clapping - it made you forget all about the calf cramps and blisters. Then back onto the road taking us back to the Poliesport Pollensa where after a lap of the stadium we finished Yipeeeeeeee !

We all made it back in 3 hours 40 minutes and after a quick team photo headed off for a lovely G&T at La Boca - which I would highly recommend.

So that was the final activity in our breast cancer awareness month. There have been many great moments, tears of joy, sadness and relief but above all a huge sense of community spirit that has brought many people together in a relatively small village.

Once again a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported any of the events and sponsored me , and for anyone who is here on April 29th, there will be a cheque presentation at Hardleys restaurant to the AECC for all the funds raised. There will be several bands playing and lots of stories about the events that have unfolded over the last fdew weeks. I will of course post to let you all know exactly how much has been raised, but for now am off to soak my tootsies !!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE
