Yesterday about 4pm I heard a helicopter flying very low over our apartment. We rushed down to the front to see someone being winched from the rocks on the south sandy beach. Can only think it was a wind surfer who had crashed into the rocks, as I cant imagine anyone would have been swimming as the weather was awful. Loads of police and a large crowd watching, and the traffic was held up as everyone slowed to see the drama unfold. We went home today so haven't been able to find out exactly what happened and hope whoever it was is ok.

Did anyone else see the rescue or know exactly what happened?

You are correct Debz, a wind surfer did crash onto the rocks but i don't know any other details. :(

windsurfer

I just hope that they are ok.
They certainly were picking up quite a speed and whizzing across the bay when the wind was blowing on Wednesday and Thursday morning before we left.

Yes that was what I posted under the windsurfer/kitesurfer heading. The windsurfer apparently hurt his ribs and back.

We were there too Debz, must have missed you, we had stopped to pick up supplies at the Spar as the helicopter first arrived, glad he wasn't badly hurt it did look very serious
