Hidropark - No food rule

Not sure on Spanish law but basically when you enter an establishment such as this they set out the rules and you must abide by them.

The worst legally they can do is ask you to leave.

The Health and Safety thing sounds a bit of a smokescreen but again because of the nature of the place maybe they don't want people eating and drinking all over the place then leaving bits and pieces on the ground that could be a hazard?

I've never been there so I don't know the set-up. Ultimately, you enter on their conditions so must abide by their rules. Same as over here, you can pay to go into a nightclub then be asked to leave and you have no option.........well, you could sue them at extortionate cost I suppose !!!!!

I think the H&S issue is a valid point, they probably have a policy on glass bottles for example, all their drinks are supplied in plastic containers, if people take their own stuff in they might take glass bottles, cans, knife and all sorts in. Of cause its to make you eat their food but now they at least tell people up front so you are aware and can decided whether to still go or not, again the water if H&S, they would have to supply fresh and clean water for their customers free of charge, still a great place to go with small kids, many happy memories of it.

Has anyone been to any other Water Park on the island and found that they have the same policy?.
I fully understand the glass and knife thing but as they search every bag anyway, those items could be confiscated. I have never heard of anyone being injured by a sandwich, baguette, tomato or any fruit .

I haven't been for about three years but definitely seen cool boxes etc at the one in El Arenal in the past, not sure if they have changed their policy as well, better not get into a discussion on H&S Just to say, dont you realise how dangerous baguettes can be in the wrong hands.

The other parks websites don't mention not being able to take food. Maybe it is because Hidropark is linked with the Hotel & guests. The other parks are owned by a bigger group, Aspro, that own a lot of theme parks & aquariums all over europe.

Last year my wife and I took our 12 year old granddaughter to the Hidropark. We were met by one of the security people who insisted we dump our water and crisps. I told him under no circumstances would I even consider it as it was one of our basic human rights to have access at all times to clean water. He asked us to accompany him to a small nearby room. He then relented and told us it would be OK but please hide the items in case other people saw them. Moral of the story: stand up these bullies. Do not be afraid of making a scene. It's expensive enough for what is, essentially a second-rate attraction, without that nonsense.

Interestingly, we went to the Alcudia park yesterday, had a big bag with us, and it wasn't searched, so perhaps they are not following this policy now. We did arrive about an hour after it opened, and there was no queue, so whether that made a difference, I don't know.

We went to the Hidropark the week before last in the afternoon. Having been pre-warned by the posts on this site we feed the kids before going. We arrived around 2pm and stayed until it closed at 6pm. It was a great time to go as the queues for the slides got shorter and shorter as the afternoon wore on.

Our bags were not searched and all the staff I came into contact with were polite and helpful. On arrival I asked for 3 adult tickets and he asked how old my daughter was, I replied "Just turned 12" (well she did turn 12 at the end of June) so he let her have a kids ticket! The food did look expensive (especially now you can get a MDD in the port for as little as 10euro).

It was a great afternoon and kids had a ball.

Jonny and I went to Hidropark on Friday last week. I bought tickets at our hotel the night before to avoid the queues the next day. The lady at reception told me about the no food and drink rule so this implied that the rule is still in place (our hotel was the Puerto Azul).

We decided that we wouldn't eat the park so didn't try to bring any food with us. My large camera bag wasn't searched when we got there. We ate at the park last year and the food was awful. So we left the park at lunchtime, got stamped so we could get back in and headed to the two restaurants half a mile down the road. We tried out one which I think is called Bar Crorsan and it was lovely. Jonny had a burger and chips and I had a HUGE plate of pamboli plus some delicious freshly squeezed OJ. Not only was the food 100x nicer than the food at Hidropark, it was much cheaper (only €16.60 for us both) plus we got to sit in air con for an hour to escape the worst of the hot sun.

We were at the Hidropark again last month and rule still applies. All our bags were searched as were most other peoples.

Food inside was still not restaurant standard but I have to say it was improved from last year but still expensive.

We also went last month, and our bags were not searched, obviously a bit hit and miss! Unfortunately my daughter banged her front tooth on the botton of the pool when the wave machine was on and broke it in half (big tooth as well!!) Going tomorrow to get it fixed!!! Otherwise my girls both thought it was fab!

Took my daughter and her friend to the big water park over in Aranal last week. Loads of people taking in cool boxes full of food and drink with them - so that nonsense about it being a health & safety issue is rubbish.

Much better park as well.
