Hiring a small boat to fish from

Hi. I will be in PP in June and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for somewhere/someone I could hire a small boat from. I'm thinking maybe a small fishing boat or just a rowing boat (with or without an outboard). I'm hoping to avoid hiring a motorboat from a company as I daresay they are quite expensive.
Im probably only going to be wanting something for a few hours maybe 3 or 4 times.
Any suggestions/advice much appreciated!

Probably best to wait til you get here and ask some of the old geezers on the quay(the local fish people)Or ask in La Lonja(the bar not the restauarant) Don't worry if you dont speak spanish, when it comes to money the Mallorcans speak every language in the world

As you have the necessary licences you can hire from a few places however as you suspected the hire costs can be expensive and boats often in short supply. A small rib from Nautinort (boats based outside Restaurant Stay) will cost around 200 euro for the day and there is a heavy insurance excess premium. Quite easy to do some prop damage around Chicken Bay!! Private individuals often loathe to rent out/loan due to insurance/third party problems and generally third party insurance is for the owner/driver not the boat. The Guardia are VERY hot (rightfully so) on checking the insurance extends to the skipper. Best to wait for a calm day and go for a smaller rib so the hire costs not too excessive. Also worth going to Alcudimar as there are a number of hire firms based there.

Wills ~ just a word of warning (sorry if I appear to be a kill joy) but I have just had my boat insurance renewal and my premium has increased as the bail bond element in Spain is now larger. The bay can be busy when you are visiting with swimmers/jet skis/boats/pedalos etc and if you do have an accident (or indeed if it is not your fault) you will be 'held' until the matter is sorted ~ licence or not! I would seriously recommend not borrowing or hiring off a 'local' unless you are 100% sure THEIR insurance covers you. By law the recognised hire firms are obliged to provide you with an English translation. From memory the excess on Nautinort's Italian ribs is 600€.

Thank you for the info and all the tips, Sun. Sounds like there is a bit more to think about than just bunging a local a few euros! Also, the hire costs you speak of are just as I feared. Im now starting to think I might just fish off a pedalo, could be least hassle all round!
