Thanks for your post WRIGHTSTUFF. Certainly some good ideas and I guess if all that you take is spread over the luggage allowance for all of you it probably isn't too bad. If we (OH and self) had to take as much as that, there would be no room anywhere for clothes!!!!!!

Hi everyone,
My first post to the forum on this very useful website.
We love Mallorca and have normally holidayed around Alcudia - last time 2006. We are due to go out to Pollensa in 2 weeks and now that we have 4 children we will no longer hire a car like normal, staying in an apartment near the beach. As it's been so long since we were in Mallorca, and given the strengthening in the Euro since then I'm struggling to work out how much money to convert into Euros.

I wonder whether anyone can help?

I will cook self-catering most nights, but will need to buy lunch out (light lunches, say 10 days) for 2 adults & 4 young children. We will rent an umbrella and 2 sunbeds each day for 14 days. We will have an ice-cream (6 therefore!) each day. I will need to go by taxi to a supermarket and back twice for food. And buy food for 14 days for 6 to cook/for breakfast. Plus bits and bobs for a few inflatables, minor souvenirs, etc.

Any idea how much we should take?! I know it's asking something hard to guess, but I'm hoping that people who have been in Pollensa more recently will be able to give me some guidance on current prices.

Skip the sun beds and umbrellas, just buy cheap parasols and get your towels down the beaches are great, save you about 12 euros a day thats a lot of MDD over the 2 weeks

You can buy some little low chairs on the front and with a parasol you would save money. Look for offers on lunches or take the advice to buy and prepare yourself, then have money spare for some evening meals out.

Well here goes!! sorry for boring you all in advance.

The main thing I do is make the boys responsible for their own money, even the 5 year old, mainly because they will think twice about that expensive ice cream when it comes out of there own wallet. Oh doesn't that make me sound like a scrooge. I do treat them too.

Not a scrooge.....very sensible. Wonderful WS......love the above, it's never too early to learn that money doesn't grow on trees!! Love all your ideas, especially with a lovely big family. Wish I could be as frugal ....will pass these tips on to my litttle family. Have a wonderful time and I know the boys will love it.....I can feel your excitement! Can't wait to hear all about it! x

GG...your funny. Although I love shopping in PP especially Hyper Centro..it does take time finding all the things on your list!! So go ahead with your plan...and BUY yourself a little top whilst there, afterall you will have loads of extra space in your case on the return journey!!

Thank you so much for all your help and suggestions. Thankfully my kids don't like fizzy drinks, prefer water, so that saves £! Good tip about taking ice pops to freeze - thanks Wrightstuff. Will definitely look into buying a parasol and a couple of low chairs. Plus that means we can be closer to the sea - the sunbeds and parasols are always set too far back to keep a close eye on the littlies who will be paddling. The new rules on taking luggage are so frustrating - we have parasols bought abroad which we always used to take to and fro on the plane in the days you didn't pay for everything you take!

Can I check on the best supermarket to go to - have no intention to go to the small "holiday maker" ones - will need to do two big shops, one each week, using a taxi (maybe a bus on the way there). We're staying in Es Pinaret, so where shall I go for the best supermarket?

We stay in the Pinaret area and there is a walkway cut through that brings you out near the petrol station which is across the rd from the large supermarket which i'm sure does deliveries for a small fee (not well up on names but sure others will know). We budget to breakfast in (take some things from home), make your own butties etc for lunch and then we can afford to go out most evenings, although sometimes it is nice to stay in, get fruit and veg from Wednesday market, cooked chicken from Golden Lion etc, but it would be a shame to stay in every night when there is such a variety of restaurants to choose from and part of the enjoyment is having a wander along the "prom".

Yes Darbo is right. The cut through takes you onto the cycle path which is safe to walk along as you can see/been seen quite easily. The supermarket is Eroski and will be fine for your shop. I believe I have read on here somewhere that they do deliver too. I'm sure someone will be able to give you an idea of price etc. My friends are in Pinaret and they say with the cut through onto the new road it takes them about 5 minutes to walk to the supermarket. I suppose it depends where in Pinaret you are but this gives you a good idea.

in my opinion th ebest supermarket in PP is Hiper Centro ................ the fresh deli and meat counter is especially good value and FAR cheaper than the same items ( ham cheese etc ) from the pre packed fridges

CD, hubby agrees with you 100%, also people don't think that market prices are cheaper, that is not always the case.
