Info and indian food!

I wouldn't normally want Indian food on Mallorca, but since I live in France and have a 90 minute drive through mountains to find a restaurant, where is the best indian food in the port? I know there are at least a couple of places....
The "big ladies" group arrives at the start of October. Our villa in the old town was lost, courtesy of Villa Parade so we are now staying in the port for the first time in about 25 years!The house, "casa de mar", along the seafront, looks lovely...anyone have any first hand knowledge or info? Really looking forward to the week, and hope(yet again!), to finally get to a forum meet!

Has to be Mirch Massala

It can only be Mirch Massala.
Its our Restaurant of choice it is consistently good and great value. We eat there regularly as do all our friends and everybody who comes out to stay with us. All of whom are no strangers to good Indian food . Enjoy

I cannot remember the street the restaurant is on but it is next to Trio restaurant and across the road from the Flora Apartments if that helps

Agree with Fil. Always enjoyed the food at Mirch Massala. The service can be a bit on the slow side at times, but I'm on holiday so that doesn't really matter.

Definitely Mirch Massala great food good price lovely staff, son thought it was great and that really is a complement.

Great food and brilliant service but if you get a take away. Check what you get charged for! We came away with 2 items missing and an extra 1 charged for!

never stayed there - but it isn't that far down the front - i've justed looked on the website, it is just in front of the big Pollensa Park....

I can't understand the good reviews about Mirch Masala or any other indian restaurant in the port. I have never had a good curry in Mallorca !!!. Never good Nan Bread currys too sweet ! Why do they have to put sugar in an "authentic curry "

I think you could say the same thing about any restaurant!!

As the saying goes "You can satisfy some of thepeople some of the time but........."

Certainly you make some valid points regarding your own taste.

It would be interesting to know when you visited and disliked the nans and sweetness of the curry.

Certainly this restaurant does vary. Over the peak season, the owner comes out of the kitchen to be front of house. The nans do change and also the flavours etc change with the chef.

Most criticism is usually levied at the slow service that we tolerate as we like the food as it is to our taste and is certainly better for us than any other in the port..

As I said in my original post, it's a very special treat to have indian food close by.....since moving to thee Alpes maritimes, I've become pretty good at assorted curries and breads, to satisfy our periodic cravings! They aren't bad,so I'm told, but not like a"real" indian meal! I'm looking forward to giving it a go.
Having said that I'll be with my sister in Gateshead for three days before meeting the "big ladies" to fly to palma, so there's no shortage of choice there!

Well I have to tell you that over the summer we had in exes of 30 people staying with us at different times all from Bradford and Leeds so no strangers to Authentic curry's and they all without exception Love Mirch Masala and have done for a number of years.
So not entirely sure what you are used

I agree entirely about the "Indian" restaurants and their inability to make any even half decent curry.
In my 10 years of coming to PP i can only remember one decent place,which ironically closed down after a couple of years (now a Spar,not far from the rear of The Miramar)

Mirch Massala - I wrote a review about 3 years ago after eating there one night. I remember saying that in over 30 years of visiting Mallorca(and Spain generally) the meal we had that night was the worst we had EVER had.
Three years later that still stands.

Do they have a tandoor oven now to make the Nan's ?. It was just after New Year we visited so maybe it was understaffed. I make my own curries from scratch, grinding all my spices from fresh so I am probably quite critical. I also find at home when I go for a curry that a lot do put sugar in their Curry's too!. Maybe us Brits eat too much sugar !!!

Sweeping Statements

This is the dificulty with restaurant reviews!!
Extremes of views depending on ones own expectations and experiences.
As I said before......"You can please some..............."

Flavours are an individual thing.
Quality of ingredients and cooking are easier to critique.
Its so easy to make general sweeping state!ents about restaurants based on a narrow experience without constructive detail.
This "narrow experiece" applies to myself, as I tend to order the same dish every time I go....to the point that the owner asks if I need a menu and has often written down my order before I reply!!

We usually go two courses from Set Menu B at €13.95 which includes:
Papadom with pickle
A good choice of Starter, I usually go for the Tandoori Chicken or Shish Kebab, both well flavoured.
A good choice of Mains with Rice, I always have Chicken Jalferezi which I adore, full of flavour and quite hot.
all washed down with the drink included.....Always a pint for me!!

We do often add a side dish and a Nan bread, often a plain or their Special Murch Massala (extra to the set menu) The Nan is usually the best we have had, except recently in peak season when the ower leaves tthe kitchen to help serve.

Extremely good value and with flavours an heat that suits my palate.

I hope I have included enough detail to support my views.

Sorry I dont know about the oven but out of season the nans will have been made by Nesser the owner and should have been good (as far as my preferences and experiences go!)

I like "hot" curries and so may not be able to identify the more subtle flavours I once could. As for sweetness, I dont like "sickly" sweet but dont mind a little.

In my opinion Mirch provides dishes that suit my palate at a very reasonable price. Certainly some things are not always to the standard we expect but we will be back there this weekend for another meal......for research honestly!!
