One of my favourite eateries, but alas rarely mentioned on these pages, is the Joker Snackbar. Be it breakfast, light lunch or ( I'll confess ) a good fry up at night accompanied by the best Rioja on their list, they've always delivered. Prime seafront position, nice friendly staff and good honest food, in my opinion it's been a plus feature of the Port for many years.

So intrigued to read here that Josep had refurbished the sister RAF bar ( now renamed Ca'n Josep it had to be one of our first meals out since we've been back. After days of wind and rain we awake to a perfect day today. Both churches in the Port and Pollenca packed for Palm Sunday with folks carrying around palm fronds in the brilliant sunshine.

So by two o'clock Bonyladette and I had secued a position at Ca'n Josep on the terrace overlooking the beach road ( and importantly the beach drenched in sunshine) for a good Sunday lunch. First impressions of decor and furnishings very favourable as both outside and inside, it was obvious a lot of expense had gone into the refurb.

Place absolutely packed with local families with loads of kids but very child friendly and not at all stuffy. ( Give me a kid blowing on his new mouth organ anyday than some poseur !!!! ). Atmosphere good but $64k dollar question was whether the food could match the ambience.

Starters of squid for BLT and wild mushrooms with Iberian ham por moi soon dispelled these fears. Both followed up with duck, beautifully cooked with nice veggies and finished with cheesecake ( Palm Sunday treat cos it's still Lent, folks !!!! ). Wine reasonably priced and we walked out with a bill of about 60 Euros ( I insisted, out of sentiment, of walking along the Front in the lovely weather to the Joker for coffee and brandy ).

Understand MDD for the evening will be 20.95 Euros including wine, apparently still testing lunchtime trade to settle lunch menu.

So to sum up, a very enjoyable couple of hours, on a lovely day, looking over the beach and sea to a sunlit Mal Pas. Terrace tables will probably be at a premium come high season , however just have a feeling that this gamble to move upmarket in these troubled times might pay off and Joe's place become a hit of 2009.

p.s. If you hear a kid whistling Dixie , just remember the A & E's been moved from Alcudia to Mouro !!!! :D:D

We saw this place in March and thought it looked really nice:)

Great review as always BL!

We took our visitors here today as they always liked the Joker and they tested out the homemade burgers!! very pleased with them.I hope he does well ,he always makes you feel so welcome.

We had a lovely meal in Ca'n Josep last night and will go back again when we are out in June.
The restaurant has been completly refurbished and is lovely, the food was well presented and good quality, Josep is very friendly and deserves to be successful here.
Well worth a visit.:)

Ca'n Josep

We have just returned from PP and whilst there took the opportunity to visit Ca'n Josep. The restaurant which used to be RAF bar is now owned by Josep (ex Joker Bar manager). It has been refurbished over the winter to a very high standard.
The ambience of the room, service and food were of the highest quality. We will certainly be revisiting in the summer!

C'an Josep

My partner and two of her friends have just returned from PP and highly recommend Josep's restaurant for full English breakfast, lunchtime snacks and the Menu of the Day at £15 which offers excellent value for money."Food fit for the Queen" was the verdict of one of them! Everything here is of extremely good quality and beautifully presented.
I can't wait to try it myself!!!
The Senor.

Have just returned from PP today and ate at Ca'n Josep twice during the week. The first night hubby and I had the MDD (which i think is 15.50 and inlcudes bread, olives wine etc).. we both had the cream of vegetable soup with croutons which was delicious.Hubby had the pork with pepper cause and I had beef medallions with mushroom sauce..Hubby had the strawberry marscapone cheese cake and I swapped the dessert for a coffee as could not manage dessert (well perhaps i did steal a mouthful of the cheesecake for reporting purposes only ;)) .last night we ate from the menu.I had warm goatscheese and bacon salad (superb) followed by chicken breast with mushroom sauce (instead if the pepper sauce) hubby had melon and ham.followed by steak with pepper sauce. The main dishes are served with a medley of roasted vegetables and potatoes .The bill (including 3 drinks and 2 coffees) was only a little over 50 euros.the food and the service was excellent..nothing was too much trouble and Josep is more that happy to tailor the dishes to suit you.I can highly recommend it and we will certainly go back there in July

The menu sound lovely. Is the place wheelchair accessible. I remember passing by in the summer but didnt take any notice if wheelchairs could get in. If not i will have to leave hubby outside:D

As far as i can remember it is wheelchair accessible...there is plenty of room on the outside (covered) front terrace and I am almost sure there is a ramp as well as steps up to the inside area.

We're off to PP Saturday and working out a list of good reasonable places to eat and their locations, Ca'n Josep sounds just the ticket but can anyone tell me where it is? I did a search but couldn't see any address/directions.
Thank you :)

I think it is along the front - opposite the marina? If anyone can confirm as I don't think I've added it to the directions thread yet.

Thanks

Jane:)

I remember passing it last year as the Raf bar but as it looked small i didnt go inside. Is there seating out the back?

I have not been in yet, but i would imagine it is like most of the places on the front, they seem to be narrow but they go back a long way.
