Lightweight luggage

Sounds good. Does this weight include wheels? - I think my cabin bag weighs about 3kg.

Zelda I've just weighed both cases and the weight stated on the label is correct so is inclusive of everything :)

Probably not quite the right place to post but seemed appropriate. Have just discovered that Easy jet appear to have increased the size on their cabin baggage to 56x45x25, this is 5 cm on two measurements bigger than Ryan air. So this will hellp also.

Annoying thing for us is that we often choose to fly out/return with different carriers due to their schedules so we get clobbered with 2 debit/credit card costs plus we often fly out with an airline which allows 25cm width cases and return with one that restricts the width to 20cm on the same plane - 737.

Well said Belladonna! exactly what happened to me! had to put my 1 piece of perfect sized light weight Sub 0 bag in the hold! not happy! too many selfish passengers with too many bags/dutyfree and big coats!....unhelpful stinking attitude Air waitresses...oops hostesses! refusing to help.
Apart from that great piece of luggage but I wouldn't trust it even with a 10 year guarantee in the hold...Very thin material catch something sharpe its a gonner! just add worth buying the digital scales always spot on, easyjet are selling them now, worth every penny.

Overhead locker space is going to become even more hotly battled over now that the money grabbing airlines have started charging for hold baggage

GG :)

Presenting and introducing, IN THE BLUE CORNER, we have XXXX:)

And in the red corner! YYYY:D

I see everyone is not in agreement on cabin baggage!

It then creates a further problem of people putting bags under the seat in front, which is absolutely fine usually, but as the bags get larger, they protrude further out, then the stewards want them pushed further forward, then they push the safety vest under the front seat or encroach on the foot room under the seat etc etc!
I think 2 allowable pieces of luggage but of a smaller size may have been a better way, that way one piece can be in the overhead locker and one under the seat in front. This would leave room for any coats to be put up.
Some of the "hand luggage" is already of "overnight" size - plus wheels and handles which catch on other soft bags.

interesting thread

we flew to Italy with Meridiana last year, & the differences compared to UK airlines were marked -

no obsession with hand baggage sizes

fewer cabin crew

minimal choice of drinks - tea, coffee, oj, water, virtually no food - what do you need for 2 hour flight?

no intrusive announcements selling lottery tickets every 5 minutes - in fact no announcements at all, safety message on screens

no crew bothered about people going to the loo when seat belt sign on, or when using games / mp3s during take off/landing, or having bags on empty seats during take off, etc

didn't feel unsafe at all, just a refreshing change

Presumably all EC airlines are subject to the same safety considerations - do UK carriers go a bit over the top ( the EJ stewards do seem to like their 'flirty' banter over the tannoy) with H&S, or does CAA have higher requirements?

oops, prob wrong thread, but read it with interest following EJ's tightening of 'free' hold baggage allowance this year - £84 in advance for an extra 6 kilos between 4, I'm scared to look at the excess rates, glad we bought the scales, but , surprise surprise, they didn't match Easyjets last year, & you don't need me to tell you which weighed heavier...

lightweight luggage

We have bought Samsonite extra light cases but be warned they are pricey however work out better than excess charges

I am off to Seville at the end of the month with Ryanair, we are taking just hand luggage which is 10kg, I have brought a set of scales as recommended and weighing things to check I stay under, but looking at the paper work from Ryanair it states if you go over the limit they charge 6 euros per Kg, this seems very cheap and so if I go over by 1 or 2 kg i wouldn't worry, can someone confirm that they have only been charged this by Ryanair?

I have never had luggage weighed by Ryanair, but they do check to see if it meets their size regs and if not charge you 35 euro's.

Thanks Lollipop, in that case I had better check their case size limit

Just checked

Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted. (handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc.) must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage.

Extra/oversized cabin baggage will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of £35/€35. If you are unsure, check at the Bag Drop desk before going through security.

I would suggest you watch your luggage weight too as I know we were well under having weighed ours yet according to their scales we were over!! - funny that - not!

I guess it just proves the old adage " There ain't no such thing as a free lunch". How do we prove they are wrong? and if we spend too long arguing with them......we miss the flight........win win for the airlines

Sparky you are right. Also of course it is embarrassing especially if there is a long que. I really don't know how we can prove their scales are wrong. They have you really - also the problem with arguing with them is they may decide not to allow you on the flight at all!!
We are lucky in our area we have a choice of airports so more choice of who to fly with. I must say since our little run in with Ryanair, they are right down my list. I know others are not so lucky to have a choice but I just hate being in a que wondering what will happen. Another time with Ryanair, there was only 1 desk open and although we arrived with 2 hours to spare we ended up with minutes to go as the que was so long. - Too much for the blood pressure, i'm afraid!

Yes but at 6 euros a kg its hardly the end of the world if you go over by 1 or 2 is it

Not sure if it applies to hand luggage, but my parents went over on their hold luggage by 1kg and were charged £20.

we were told we were 4 kilos over and they wanted to charge 40 Euros. The point actually was that we knew we were under!

So it may not have been the end of the world but it certainly was the end of Ryanair for us!!
