Making a phone call home!!!

Just so that everyone is aware to be careful!!

I usually stay in a private apartment but as I grew up staying in the Flora apartments we always go there for drinks and to see all the staff so this is usually where I would make a quick call home ten minutes costing me around 4-5 euro.

Imagine my shock when after a ten minute call to the same number in the UK for the same ten minutes at the Daina hotel the night porter asked me for 22.45 Euros. When I asked for a receipt for the phone call he refused to give me one stating I had to pay what he said. My father then passing reception came over and asked what was happening the night porter then said I should pay whatever I thought it shouldve been and walked away!!

I would say tho that I still love the Daina and consider this more someone chancing their arm

Rachel, you should have reported this to the manager. This guy has probably done the same to others and got the money and will more than likely con others in the future.

out of curiosity, how much did you pay all in all? i agree with sparky, should have reported him, this ruins the friendliness of our beloved pp!

I did report this to the manager as i agree with you Sparky - I paid 5 Euro in total and told him he wasnt getting anymore unless he could produce a receipt for me which he couldnt. In the Flora when I made a call I got a print out with the start time and end time of the call.

soulds like it all got solved then, if you payed the usual and reported the con-man, the only bother was the hastle.

Phone home from a Locutorio

Not only do hotels sting you, so do the outside telephone Boxes. There are many public Locutorio/Internet shops where you can use the internet for less than 2 euros per hour and telephone UK anytime during day for a cost of
1 euros for 5 minuits and you get to sit down in a private booth.Best value.
They seem to be open all hours.

Good idea Grandad , Those stupid telephone boxes swallowed a good 10 euros when I was out there last . Also the one in the square is right by the Cafe meaning everyone there enjoying a drink gets to hear my conversation . I will try the Locutorio shops when im out next

Hi Grandad,
IT TOOK US AGES BEFORE WE REALISED THAT IT WAS NOT NECESSARY TO USE EURO COINS IN THE PUBLIC PHONES. NOW WE SAVE ALL THE BRASS BITS AND USE THOSE TO PHONE HOME AND WE EVEN GET CHANGE IF WE DONT' USE ALL THE MONEY. WORKED FOR US FOR 3 MONTHS AND AGAIN THIS YEAR....... SAVED A FORTUNE.

We always buy a 12 euro phone card from the supermarket or the like - saves having to keep finding and feeding change.

just a quickie. We were lucky enough to spend 3 months in an apartment overlooking a phone box in P.P. Every morning at 6 am a gent would arrive on his bicycle at about 6 am as we had our coffee on the balcony . He methodically checked each phone and then left. After watching this for a week or so my curiosity got the better of me. I got up early and beat him to it. His trick was brilliant and so simple. He wedged the flap for returned coins so that the change sat on top of the flap giving the user the impression that the phone had swallowed it. He just freed the flap and out came his "booty". Full marks for initiative eh? Just one of the many happy memories of 12 weeks of heaven.
