I think I am right in saying that the Imperial Bar is on the corner of El Cano and Avinguda Paris is the second street after the bridge, near Tolo's.

The timing of this could not have been worse, recession is biting and the port is quiet compared to this time last year.

keeping people away means less money spent in my experience.

If we cant park easily and have to drive round the new road we will go to Pollenca town or Alcudia old town for a night out and to buy food during the daytime.
We will still go for a walk along Pine walk, just not as often and wont spend as much money in the Port as we usually do.

We are here now for our September holiday and there is definitely a noticeable drop in the amount of tourists around compared to September 2007. Its a shame really.

If you look at Google maps the area described is where the sandy beach starts (near the road up to Stay restaurant on the quay) across the river area near Tolo's and up to the next road (Av de Paris) which has the 2 huge fine villas on each corner. There is also a telephone box on this corner.
I think it sounds like a good pilot scheme and should stop most of the really noisy trucks and traffic....but you never know the side effects until it happens. We're going out next Friday 26th (my birthday) so I'll take some phots and post them so you can judge for yourselves.

Hi all - I am afraid that, in my opinion, the last thing the port needs is more pedestrianisation. The danger is that the place we all love, which is an old traditional fishing port with all the character of it's buildings (many of which are being torn down and replaced with modern blocks) and layout. Bing able to drive into the port and enjoy the views all the awy in. Being able to easily access all of the small businesses just behind the front. The impact that this will have on the streets just behind the front when all the traffic attempt tpo get as close the the seafront as possible will be devastating traffic wise - and then what will happen? Multi storey car parks behind the ring road no doubt.

Right - i've had my grummble...pull another cork dear!!

Mmm, its difficult enough to get parked at the best of times especially when you have a particular restaurant in mind and try to park close to it. Especially as we always drive down from Llenaire.
Now, will I have to take walking shoes to start with, and change into my "proper" shoes if I have such a long way to walk?! Will it be worthwhile (rhetorical question really!) or will I revert back to Porta Alcudia for a parking space (unlikely!).
We shall see in a few weeks.

Road Signs

Stayed a couple of weeks ago in apartments near Villa Concha and there were many new road signs, some of which had black bin bags over them, which were obviously the start of a one way system. As I have said on this forum before I get confused at the best of times when driving 'on the wrong side' so I for one, and I think like others, would be put off if it gets too complicated. I realise that there is plenty of parking off the main stretch and a shortwalk across the road but many people will not want to walk anywhere when it is hot, it is so good to park next to the beach for the port.

We are back in PP 5th October and will be staying on the front ...the back roads are bad enouh at the best of times for access and parking so will see what happens.will keep you posted.

Just to try and clear up the confusion over wharf
The locals name for Puerto Pollensa is Eu Moll, when anyone local refers to Eu Moll they mean the whole port, the whole town.
The word moll on its own however literally translates as either port, dock, pier or wharf
So in the article taken from the Daily Bulletin earlier in this thread, whoever translated it didn't realise Eu Moll meant Puerto Pollensa as a whole and thought the moll referred to was just the port area, dock or wharf.
Area to be subject of pedestrian experiement is from El Cano (where currently closed-down Bona Cepa is on the corner) to Avenida Paris which is the road after Tolo's on the seafront. Traffic will still be able to get to the seafront car park and both piers as road will be open from the roundabout by Hotel Eolo down to El Cano. No parking signs on this part of the road itself have been up for some weeks.

New Road

Having just walked the seafront including the area designated for pedestrianisation,parking for the seafront is unaffected for those coming in from Alcudia direction unless you want to park in the marina car park and then a short diversion along the new road is needed. Coming from the Pinewalk end of town the same would apply but in reverse. Shopping and eating on that stretch would become more enjoyable especially for those with young children.

Surely the main question posed here is whether or not the sign posting at the new roundabout on the the Pollensa/Alcudia coast road is clear enough. By this, I mean that it should be obvious there is no access to the port from this road & that all traffic wishing to enter the port must take the new by-pass road. The worst case scenario for those of us who own properties in El Pinaret is one of constant traffic attempting to find a way from the coast road to the by-pass via the relatively narrow roads adjacent to Avenida Paris etc.
The other question which has been bothering me is what happens to the traffic which currently exists Calle Temple Fielding on to the coast road. Are the local authorities going to reverse the existing one way set-up of this road to take all traffic back to the Puerto Pollensa/pollensa road?

Simultaneously, new signposts indicating the pedestrianisation of the stretch of seafront will be erected this coming week with the aim of completely cutting off traffic between calle Elcano and Avenida de Paris by the end of the week. The only vehicles which will not be barred from circulation will be local buses.

Does anyone know the exact date for traffic to be barred from this stretch of road?

My reason for asking is that my daughter is staying in our apartment which is just behind the affected area, she used resorthopa for transport from the airport, being dropped off at the nearest hotel which is 'La Goleta' (this hotel will now be on the pedestrianised part) and is due to be picked up at the same point on Thursday when she returns. My worry is that the coach will not be able to access the road to pick her up at the same point that they were dropped off. They will not know about the changes to the road access.

I would be grateful if anybody can keep me updated with the developments over the next couple of days so that, if necessary, I can contact resorthopa and my daughter with any changed arrangements for their return pick-up point.

If my memory serves me rightly,La Goleta is in LLenaire which is outside of the proposed pedestrianisation area. As of today no changes anywhere.
