Like anything new it will take time to get used to. Yes at the moment you can travel eastwards by car if you come down the road to trotters or the road at Imperial and yes buses can go westwards all the way from Lleniare to the roundabout but this will be a short-term measure on the road t full pedestrianisation. Im all for it.

RESIDENTS in the Port of Pollensa have decided to take legal action in their battle against the new road scheme introduced in the Port this week.
Residents’ Association leader Dr Gary Bonsall has apparently been forced to take such decisive action because he feels his 250-strong residents’ group has nowhere else to go in their fight against the Port of Pollensa road plan and, if the battle continues, widespread protest action is not being ruled out next summer.

The new scheme sees traffic banned from the port’s promenade and diverted through narrow side streets - potentially putting pedestrians, especially wheelchair and push chair users in danger

I have just walked down to Tamarrells and it is eerily quiet. Seems odd to direct the traffic down karaoke alley which is difficult enough to negotiate as a pedestrian anyway.As noted previously this is a trial, so the debate can continue.

I get the impression that from a tourists point of view the new pedestrianisation is great, but the residents seem less than happy. I cannot see how the side streets can cope with all the extra traffic, especially during the summer - I wonder what the full plan is and is this just the first phase of a grand plan - I am sure that if the full plans were publicised at the beginning and full consultation with all concerned parties, then many off the problems could have beeen ironed out before implementation - Always assuming that they know what the full plans are!

Hi Whaleywanderer. Your point about cars blocking up side streets will not be an issue in the long term. The majority of cars on the front rd are passing through so once they understand that is no longer possible they will use the new road. The only people who will use the side streets will be those that have a reason for going there. As for the guy who is going to mount a legal challenge, well he would be better off challenging them to clean up the filth in the "side streets" he is so passionate about. He would have a better chance of success in that direction than the one he is about to embark on. As hoopy said in an earlier post he's all for the road closure. Well that makes 2 of us. I can't wait for the day when i can lay on that beach without some oik screaming past on his oversized hair drier with no silencer on to wake me from my slumber. It can't come soon enough.

Traffic is only going up the side streets because most people are unaware of the road closure until they get to it, and therefore have no option! Once everyone has got used to the idea they will use the by-pass and stop using the side streets. We have an apartment in Pinaret and it's like a twisty maze of roads to get out of at the top end (the bypass), so unless you lived there you certainly wouldn't choose to use it in preference to the by-pass.

I agree with Hoopy and Pollensafan I'm all for it too!

Its not just the "tourists" that are causing problems with the new road layouts. Locals/residents are disobeying the existing new signs because they cannot be bothered.

I think the police need to take a heavy hand in ensuring motorists obey the new signs/bollards that are in place.

When I was in PP in early September, I witnessed several (young) motorists disobeying the No Entry signs (at speed!!) at the Habitat roundabout into C. Cadernera by going down the wrong side of the road. Also going down the wrong lane from the new r'bout on the bypass on C Cadernera to enter Pineret via C de Gangiil where new bollards stop you turning left. Other motorists were regularly seen doing 3 point turns around the bollards also a hazard, all for the sake of a few hundred yards to turn legitimately at the roundabout towards the Polensa Park.

I think pedestrianising the front is an excellent idea, it just needs careful thought planning trafic flows.

It seems the Polensa Council are trying the Irish system, where they intend changing from driving on the left to the right, Trial the busses first then the cars a week later!!

What about all the visitors who come to the Port to go to the beach? I don't think they will want to use the new road. Where would they park to get to the beach?

So you think it is better to direct "some oik screaming past on his oversized hair drier with no silencer " through residential areas?

Hi mariquita, I think you are missing the point. Take a seat along the front and watch the same cars going up and down with the music booming out of the windows. When i was a lad they called it "posing" what it's called now i dont know. Anyway the point i was trying to make is if they are no longer allowed to use that rd they wont be doing it down the back roads as there will be no people to perform to.I hope that explains it a bit better.As for the point about the parking i thought they were just closing that short piece of rd, which still leaves the rest of the front from the beach bar out to-wards linnaire.

Parking isn't a problem on the front!

We were in PP last week and parking along the beachside road is unaffected. If people really must drive their cars right up to within 5 metres of the beach (a bit sad really) they can still get access to the parking right from Llenaire all the way up to Avenida de Paris- the way they always have. The new system just stops through traffic and has made the whole area much more pleasant. Time will tell if there become any side issues but parking certainly isn't one of them.

You cannot drive all the way through from Llenaire to Avenida de Paris. There is a no entry sign on the main road junction with Calle Bot (Road to Pollensa Park Hotel) and you must turn left there.

Everything seems to have gone very quiet - does this mean that the new scheme is working well? - Are people obeying the new rules? - what are the exemptions, buses and coaches or just buses? - What is the overall effect on the area?

I actually cant wait to get there now to see how it all works! My main noise concern is the building of the Old peoples home just behind our appartments. Evidently the road itself is causing no noise problems.
Im sure that once people realise they can use the road and come into the port the back way, clogging up of side roads will not occur.
Perhaps better signposting will help.
We shall see.

We are just back from PP and our apartment is near the beach on the road leading down from the Old People's home, we passed it every day and did not notice much building noise, so hopefully it will not be a problem for you.

Got back from 2 great weeks in PP on Friday, i was concerned that the road closure would have a bad effect on the businesses on the front. In fact after talking to a few of the owners, they were quite happy with it.
It did seem strange to be able to cross the road without taking your life in your hands, and it was very quiet walking along the prom but to be honest i think it is working well. Ok there are a few who are ignoring it and driving along as normal also some are getting to Tamarells, turning into C/Bot and reversing back up to El Ancla but generally it is being adhered to.
However i still think C/Bot should be made one way , if they removed the useless pavement beside the PolyPark and extended it on the other side it would make it much safer for wheelchairs and pushchairs. At the moment it is lethal.

The banning of traffic from just passed the car park is strange, if you come in from a side road you can go any way you want, not very well thought out and I don't really know what the point is now the new road is open !

Hi, I have been reading with interest this thread. My family and I have been regular visitors to PP for the past 13 years and we always stay in an appartment located immeadiately the otherside of the new road where the old peoples home is being built (we miss the goats with their bells that used to roam there!). Now that the new road is open and the new coast road restrictions are in place, I would like to know just how busy / noisy the new road is as that might deter me from returning.
