Hi,

I’ve recently moved to the area and I’m looking for a reliable handyman to help with a damp issue in the property, as well as driveway gates.

I would really appreciate any recommendations or advice.

Thanks,
Andy

I'm not sure a Handyman should be your first port of call for damp issues, as this can be quite a tricky one to deal with. A lot of properties in the port suffer from damp quite badly as a result of the type of build and high humidity. When we bought our place in 2017 I was warned about this and have always ensured the house is very well ventilated right through the year. Dehumidifier may be the best start and then a decorator?

Thanks, really appreciate your feedback, ideally I just want someone to come in and tell me either what I need or next steps

Weren’t these mentioned to the owner/estate agent when you purchased the property ?

The property never came with drive way gates so adding for security.
The apartment had paint bubbles which was work on, however it’s returned a few months later.

Now we are getting into the warmer weather, I'd suggest getting a damp meter which are relatively inexpensive, to assess where the major issues are. Then I'd wait for them to dry out and get them redecorated. After that, I'd suggest getting a dehumidifier on a timer throughout the winter, plus leaving all windows slightly open if possible to get air flowing though the space. Leave toilet seats up and wardrobes ajar. Continually assess with damp meter to see what is happening.

If still a problem, consult with a specialist.
