https://majorcadailybulletin.com/ne...46/police-seat-belt-campaign-over-easter.html

As part of a nationwide pilot scheme over this Easter period, the Guardia Civil Traffic department has installed hundreds of special cameras across the country, including here in the Balearics, to catch drivers and passengers who fail to use their seat belts.

The traffic police have chosen key accident black spots, and for the first two months of the new campaign no fines will be handed out. ...

However, come the start of June, anyone caught on camera without their seat belt on can expect to be fined. ...

https://majorcadailybulletin.com/ne...rt-and-taxi-drivers-are-protesting-again.html

The new bus services between the airport and certain tourist resorts start next week, but only two of them. From 3 May, two new lines - A11 to Paguera via Magalluf and A32 to Alcudia and on to Can Picafort - will commence. A third line, A42 to Cala Millor and Cala Bona, will begin on 1 June, while the fourth - A51 to Cala d'Or via Arenal - will start on 15 June.

These services do stop in different places, so they aren't truly direct services. In the case of the Alcudia service, for instance, the bus will stop in Marratxi and Inca. ...
Full information will be available from Thursday on the website www.tib.org.

Tickets will cost, depending on the line, between five and twelve euros. ...

Taxi drivers were initially opposed to the services and protested and threatened to stage strikes. Changes have been made which have allayed many of their concerns, albeit that one of the drivers' associations is still far from happy. Meanwhile, some 500 taxi drivers in Palma are expected to stage a protest today and bring traffic to a halt for a time. This has nothing to do with the new services but everything to do with a nationwide protest against what they say are the indiscriminate granting of licences to vehicles for hire with drivers.

https://majorcadailybulletin.com/ne...-new-puerto-pollensa-yacht-club-building.html

The Reial Club Nàutic yacht club in Puerto Pollensa has a project for a new building of 1,000 square metres that will cost close to six million euros. ...

There is potential for division. A new concession would mean that there is a legal termination of rights acquired by the oldest members of the club. There are those members who have had moorings for years, while newer members don't have moorings. ...

If the new building does go ahead, it would house a sailing school and have three floors, with the upper one also for use by the harbour master. ...

To reduce pressure on the Formentor Lighthouse area there is a suggestion that

".....an option being given close attention is a shuttle bus that would run from the new bus stop in Puerto Pollensa (which is due to be by the Formentor bypass). ..."
- to the Formentor Lighthouse

So I guess all the cars that would have been going to the Lighthouse would now have to be parked in PP whilst people are shuttled over to Formentor. Err, from the new bus station, the building of which will reduce available parking spaces in the Port.

I have deleted this post. I got the story wrong. :o:o

An urban improvement project will convert the Moll de Pollença center into a "living" space from 2019

The municipal action, which will be awarded in November next year, will focus on the Miquel Capllonch square and Calle Formentor - Mayor Miquel Àngel March points out that the objective is to "reverse" the process of degradation suffered by the coastal town in the last years.

The urban center of Port de Pollença will change its image within two years. The town council said yesterday that it will carry out a process of reform of the central axis of the Moll with the aim of curbing the degradation that affects the coastal town. The idea is to turn the Miquel Capllonch square into a "living" space of popular concentration and transform Formentor Street into a more "peaceful and friendly" way, according to the words of Mayor Miquel Àngel March.

The municipal reform, whose final project is still pending drafting, will be awarded in November next year 2018 to become a reality within two years. The budget has not yet been defined, although the government team estimates that it could cost one million euros, money that would provide the City of its own surplus, since the action is considered sustainable investment, according to Mayor March.

The scope of the reform will be located in the square Miquel Capllonch, center of the town, and in the street Formentor, the old road that led until the peninsula that the Consell de Mallorca has ceded to the City council this same week, reason why the way Can already be considered urban.

In the Miquel Capllonch square will completely renovate the pavement and will provide suitable urban furniture. It will also beautify some adjacent streets and will fix some sanitation pipes that are in poor condition. "We still have to study if it is necessary to plant new trees that provide more shade and if a playground area is enabled," said the Deputy Mayor for Urbanism, Tomeu Cifre, during the presentation.

Formentor Street, meanwhile, proposes a renovation of the pavement both on the road and on the sidewalks, which will be expanded so that pedestrians have more space. All cables will also be buried.

The goal, according to the mayor, is to turn this busy street into a "friendlier" and higher quality space. Formentor Street gained a greater role between the 80's and 90's, when the first line north of Enginyer Roca Square was pedestrianized. "Since then, there has been a greater use of Formentor Street as a supply road to the many hotels and hotels on the front line, as well as for the unloading of passengers from hotel transport buses," explained Cifre. This circumstance, coupled with the small size of the sidewalks, has made this central route into a space "unfriendly to pedestrians and commercial activity", a trend that is intended to be reversed with the reform presented yesterday.

The mayor added that the Moll "undergoes a process of degradation in recent years that needs to be reversed through an investment and consistent effort in the center." According to the alderman, the action will "pacify" Formentor Street and at the same time "make the Miquel Capllonch square in a really central area, with civic life as it already happens in Pollença with Plaça

The only FB post i could find had a photo of the mayor and 2 councilmen holding up an aerial view of the area. As it's still in the early stages i don't think there are any actual plans to see yet but of course i could be wrong ;).

Sparky, there were drawings on a link but for the life me I can't find them now! They showed artist impressions of how the redesigned square would look.

If you do find it please let us know which FB page it's on ;).

The crazy paving in the square has become so uneven i am always afraid of trips and falls, hopefully it will be replaced with something safer.

Whoa there, Sparky - what a can of worms you've opened !

There was a link to a webpage with lots of artist impressions I willl try and find the link

That cat in the first picture is looking at the birds as if to say " Here's comes lunch " :D
