My useful fact was quite different - that all the villages named Bini something are Arabic (from the Moors) meaning 'son of' e.g. Binissalem, Binibona etc.. I should have realised as I know people with surnames such as 'bensusan' (actually Hebrew but uses 'ben' instead of 'bin') and Yes we've heard of a rather evil Bin ... So I knew it but it had never occurred to me in the names of Mallorcan (and apparently Menorcan) towns and villages. Basically all these places were once the property of Son of ... (like Johnson in English).

The other thing he told us which we thought was amazing is that there is no shortage of water in Mallorca as the main source is from the Pyrenees. It flows under the sea and takes 4 years to travel from there to Mallorca!

Pollensa I think we should go to the top of the class and get a gold star for paying attention and learning all this info ;) Although my party were the 'naughty' ones at the back of the bus and Michael kept saying 'Debbie be quiet!' ...just like being back at school :p

Blimey, is it April 1st already! Can't believe any of the above two theories. This bloke Michael sounds like one of those tour guides who makes up these ridiculous facts that you always hear on these trips to boost his tips!

Well nickpaulanoah, am not sure which 2 theories you're referring to?

But I assume the bottles of water to deter dogs & water from the Pyrenees?

I've been told several times the locals do leave out the bottles of water to deter dogs from peeing on their doorsteps and doing a search on this shows that some locals do 'believe' that the dogs look at their reflection in the bottle and this scares them off. Now whether this actually works....

We were also told about natural springs on Mallorca having water from the Pyrenees and googling this finds several owners stating that they have fresh drinking water from the Pyrenees.

So Michael was only telling us what is believed!
