Great report Derek. Most of us on here love reading a good report, especially one with so much detail and fair bit of humour. A very easy read.
Glad you loved Los Pescadores and Los Zarzales, two of our favourites. I was one of the many who recommended Los Pescadores. We are going to PP again in September and that will be first on our list. (And maybe even the 2nd and 3rd of the list!)
Of the others you went to, we've only been to Brisa Marina. But we must try Can Josef, sounds great.

Great reviews Disorderly but just wish we had your budget! You seem to spend 250-300 Euros per meal for 6 of you! As somebody else said, I hope it doesn't give the wrong impression about the general level of prices.

To be fair this was for 6 adults, drinks, 2 courses, wine and coffees, i don't think it's excessive. :D;)

I agree sparky it doesn't seem excessive to me either when you think of the quality of food. You'd be hard to beat that price in the UK!. The big difference is the fact that on holiday you are eating out every night which you wouldn't do at home so it does get expensive. I would much rather stay in a few nights and cook something quick and easy, then go to places like Los Z, Stay, Can Josep, Pescadores to name a few and have gorgeous meal you would find hard to beat in any top UK restaurant. I find personally if we're there for 2 weeks or more and go out every night I get 'fooded' out so it 's quite nice to have a night off ;)

Still think the best value for overall great food, service and setting is Stay's MDD. Everything included and no hidden costs unless you have an aperitif. Bread, olives, alioli ,amuse bouche, starter, main, dessert, chocs, coffee, water, half a bottle of wine per person and a liquor to finisish (of your choice not a chuppito).

Beat that for 33€ :)

2 weeks today Yay!!!!!

Debz1: have to agree with you that Stay is wonderful value but La Llonja is even better at 29 euros and, in my pinion, an even classier experience.

We have resorted to eating in once a week and eating a cheapo menu del dia once in the fortnight then interspersing forays to Los Zarzoles, Stay and O Lume with meals at Hibiscus, Nacientes and La Fortalesa - we find that way that we average 50-60 euros a night for two, which compares brilliantly with Brighton. Roll on September.

Yep Hector La Llonja is another of our favourites and agree brilliant value for money :)

Stay just edges it 'tho with my winning vote ;)

I must admit to feeling a little uncomfortable that one or two people felt that we were spending an awful lot on our dining out, but then I looked at this from another perspective......

The cost of our holiday is shared between six adults. We fly with Easyjet from Liverpool and Gatwick. We rent a fabulous villa in the Bocher valley though Villa Parade, which includes one small car. As there are six of us we hire another larger car too. We eat out most nights (12 out of 14).

Our total holiday cost works out at about £750 per person per week, which is about what I would expect to pay to stay half board in, say, The Uyal or Pollensa Park. I know which I'd prefer to do!

Actually, many of the restaurants we go to have a Menu de Dia that's available in the evening (though you often have to ask for it - I think Zazarles do).

Finally, apologies the the Port's greatest host, Josep.....who I continue to call Josef. Sorry!!

Surely it's up to you how much you spend on eating out? You don't have to justify it, Duncan!

You took the words right out of my mouth Jane.

Thanks for your report Duncan......and loved the story about Agatha..... and Hazel's reply.....great reading:)

Duncan please don't feel that you have to justify your holiday spending, it is your holiday and your money. All that matters is that you and yours enjoyed yourselves and hopefully will continue to come to PP.:D

I think as far as prices go, if posters old and new stick to the wealth of information on this board then they will not spend more than they budget for. If a meal is thought to be "expensive" then i'm sure it will be worth it, enjoy it for what it is, don't let it give you indigestion, you know you're worth it. Beans and toast when you get home:D

I just had to laugh, Smiddy. Just read your post and you'll never believe it.....I'm actually eating beans on toast! No really!

Brilliant.

Duncan:)

I loved your reviews and glad that you enjoyed your stay - not that I can doubt anyone can't enjoy PP - we come out on the 2nd Sept and we like to eat out every night and try to alternate each night with the MDD depending on where we choose to eat. Los Pescadores is definitely on our list this year - have never been so really looking forward to it. Compared to other holiday resorts we have been to PP is tops!! Excellent food and excellent value for money!!:)

Great review Duncan glad to hear the boys at Brisa are on top form, we are back out soon and looking foward to a couple of nights with the boys. Interesting review of O'lume like you we have never understood the hype for what in my book is a very average restaurant, after giving it the benefit of the doubt and eating there on three occasions, twice at the old location and once in the new. Also glad you enjoyed Pescadores aren't the views second to none

Duncan,
Great reviews with good honest comment, I enjoyed reading them. Must admit to giving Los Pescadores a miss for a special meal this year, went to Los Zarzales instead. Following your comments and those of others I'll give it a try next year.

For TheFussies a major part of the evening is the meal and the time taken to consume it, so your average cost is the norm for us, even if that means beans and toast for the rest of the year LOL.

If your cost includes travel and accomodation in the £750 Duncan you did very well; Mines worked out at approx £700 per head per week and that was 2 adults and 2 children (wife had one cointrea and orange the whole 8 days!!!, but I seriously made up for her short comings:D). But I had saved hard all year and expected to pay this and also prices were virtually the same as in 2008 when we were there. Its nice to spoil yourself when you are away, and PP is definately the place to do it.

It's always nice to come home, isn't it?

In Lancaster, one of the three best restaurants is called Quite Simply French and on Sunday and Monday they have "Simply Squiffy", where dining costs £19.98 per head, with a bottle of wine each (yes, each!) and desserts cost £1 each, if you want one.

So on Sunday Jane and I had a bargain meal.....Seafood Chowder for starters and a rare chargrilled Onglet (which I learnt was a particular French cut of steak - and very nice too) for me, and for Jane a smoked chicken salad and Salmon for main. We shared a £1 cheescake for afters and the total bill was £40.96. Welcome home!

Think there might be an opportunity for a "Quite Simply Spanish"......would be interesting to start a separate post to decide what should be on the menu!

Duncan

Duncan! A bottle each! You really must stop broadcasting your wine intake. It’s that what got you found out at the Brisa Marina!

Agatha

The problem is you raise your hand to there's a shooting star or a Snowy and they bring another bottle - hic!

O'Lume

Wonerful post Duncan. Thanks.

Picking up on your report on O'Lume I cant see the clamour for this place either. Despite having been in the old location a handful of times and being thoroughly unimpressed by everything we went to the new location on the advice of posters on here. I found it awful! Although we managed to get a table in the courtyard we were given one of the tables with the uncomfy chairs (petty perhaps but I would have thought they would have all been the same!!!). The service was poor (Jaime and one girl to serve the whole restaurant) and the prices were extorniate with my grilled clams IIRC being upwards of 10 euros and my fish for mains being 23 euros. Yip, it was me who picked them and I knew the price before picking but for these prices the food was uninspiring.

Contrast this with a waterfront table at Stay overlooking the mountains, a set menu at 33 euros including everything on the go and a real buzz to the place. There really is no comparison in these two establishments.
