When we were out a few weeks ago we managed to hire a car where we just had to return it with the same level as supplied so we stopped at the PP petrol station before going to the airport & were about to pump in a few litres. But the pump didn't seem to be working properly & we couldn't really understand the notice on the pump.

After speaking to the lady at the till, she explained that you had to pay IN ADVANCE as they were concerned about people driving off without paying. Has anyone else experienced this? What do you do if you want to fill the tank - how do you know how much fuel you need?

Have been doing this on and off in the petrol station by eroski (caprobo) for many years now. Luckily hubby seems able to work out how much to pay to fill up tank, I really dont know how though, I'm sure I must have asked him at some point but can't remember! I know, I'm useless! Will check with him later if someone hasnt already replied.

Right then, have just asked hubby what we usually do, and basically our tank is usually half empty so takes about 20 euros - Golf. If he wants to fill up and not sure how much, he goes into reception and just tells them he wants to fill up, and they allow it to be done before payment - as long as you tell them first and don't look like your are likely to do a runner of course! ;)
