Policia presence?

There seems to be a massive (and by massive I mean I've seen at least a few officers a day) since we have been here compared to the whole 3 weeks we stayed last year.
Any reason???

I think it's great to see them and on foot too instead of driving around in cars like they do in the UK, it will make the criminals think twice and the locals and tourists will feel much safer .

Did see police about the square on market day, but not on foot patrol at other times.
