I have said it once and I'm going to say it again....loving this thread, thanks again for starting it Mearsy Amazing the connection with Cornwall with lots of members....not been there in a long time but have great memories of it as a youngster camping there! Time I went back....for my second holiday of course!

Yes this had been a great thread.....I would love to hear more about the old PP, those old photos that you see around are fascinating.
I always revert to Agatha Christie mode when we have coffee at the Miramar,
I insist on calling my husband Bertie it just seems right somehow !!

Another very funny detective story set in PP is 'Mishap in Majorca' - also on our books page but I'm not sure if it is still in print.

I always try & buy Mallorca related books to leave in our apartment for family who stay - it adds to the atmosphere. Unforunately they have a habit of taking them home afterwards!

We've been every year since 2003 and won't go anywhere else. From the moment we land at Palma all our stresses and worries evaporate. And when we arrive at the Panorama were home. Don Miguel and his family and staff have become very close to our hearts. I can't describe how chilled and relaxed we feel when we are in PP. It will be every year for us and next year we will be visiting twice, july for our main holiday and 1 week in October to celebrate my 50th. Roll on the 15th.

Just thinking about the Cornwall connection: earlier this year when we were thinking that we would not make it to PP due to the volcanic ash panic, I started looking at possiblities in my favourite holiday place in England - Cornwall, preferably round Mevagissy. I was looking for a apartment/house with a nice private outside area or large balcony - but the prices were astonomical Value for money, there was no comparison with what you can get in PP! (Looking back 30 years, this is why we started going abroad in the first place!)

Have been raving on to everyone at work who visit Majorca and have never been up to the port....anyway success!! 4 ladies who have been over this last few weeks Calla Millor, Sa Coma and Deia, have made the effort to hire a car, with their partners and take a ride up to PP....and guess what? They all absolutely loved it and quite understood why hubby and I have been coming back for 15 years.....quite right too!! I didnt want to say I told you so......

Never been to Corwall but love PP. 1st came with family as a 10 yr old in 1980, we always came to Mallorca. Met my wife on the Island in 1989,Santa Ponsa. She was 17 and with her parents and younger sister. I was 19 and with my mates. 14 yrs later in 2003, we were 6 years married with a 2 yr old daughter, when we arrived at Villa Concha for a fortnight and fell in love with the place. 7 summers later and were off again for 2 weeks on the 19th, staying in a private apartment close to Villa concha. Last year was the 1st year we've missed due to the birth of our 2nd daghter so really cannot wait. No doubt we'll still be coming in another 10 yrs, nowhere else compares for us.
My dream is to buy an old Finca on the North of the Island and renovate it,but not sure if there are many left to renovate. And at this tme of our life just not affordable...One day though

On countdown now - coming out again in September for 2 weeks - this will be our 5th time, been every year since 2006. We just love PP and we only came for a week last year and felt like we had missed out so our main fortnight is back to PP. We tried Cyprus in May this year for a week but whenever we go anywhere else we find ourselves comparing it to PP and it never seems to hit the mark for us! We try to carefully plan our restuarants before we come out - but too many good ones and not enough nights!!! however would appreciate some help with Pollensa town? We have never took the opportunity to venture there and have decided it is a must this time - would really appreciate some recommendations - we have a 9 year old son who is the same as ourselves loves anything and everything - 58 days and counting!!!

I can really recommend La Trencadora - it's an Italian restaurant which makes a big theatrical display of cooking pizzas, and therefore great for children, although there are plenty of other dishes on the menu. We were very impressed when we tried it this April and went back several times. It's in a beautiful old building with the most fabulous garden. It's a bit hard to find - when you're in the main square, facing the church, take the top right-hand turning and keep going - it is on the left.

Another Italian recommendation would be Scacco Matte which is in the square just as you turn into Pollensa (where the Ford garage is). Not such a lovely location but excellent food - I understand they now do a buffet too but I haven't tried that. Il Giardino in the main square is also good, especially if you go for the set lunch at one of the outside tables - the a la carte menu is overpriced for what it is IMO.

Also La Font del Gall and Ca n'Olesa are both great, if you check out the Bars and restaurants section you will find reviews on a lot of them, and also in the A - Z you will find their locations, there is a separate section on the old town.

Pollenca old town is great, I especially love Sundays, when the market is on, its a lovely atmosphere in the square, lots of chatter going on, perfect location with a nice jug of Sangria.
I commented on LuLu's in a previous post......tiny little bar, but very welcoming and food at very reasonable prices.

With the flights going up by a considerable amount & the lady we rent the villa off wanting to know if we were returning for our usual three weeks next year we gave it serious thought on returning. Hence I have just booked the flights today. I think if we went anywhere else I would go cold turkey. The place is just addictive, as for the cost, your a long time dead.
