Dear All,
I've been reading some of the old PP Forums this week, going back a couple of years. (Well, you need something to fill your days when you're retired. And I can't think of a better way.) It seems to me that people have been saying the same old thing over and over again - PP is not what it used to be, it's becoming too commercialised, it's going downhill; too many Chinese, Indian, American-style restaurants. Well I can put up with those places. I don't choose to eat there myself, but others can, that's fine. No problem.
I've only been going to PP for the last 6 years but I personally think it gets better and better each year. The character of the place is just unmatched; the atmosphere is unique; the location is ideal. I've been to some beautiful places in Italy, France and Spain. (Ok, so I've never been beyond the Med, which is fine by me.) But Puerto Pollensa has just got to be the best. It has something that I can't quite put into words. It's magical. Mystical, almost. As soon as I get into that taxi at Palma airport, knowing that within an hour I shall be in PP, well, that's where heaven begins for me. I know I'm only a two-week-a-year tourist, but that two weeks is just paradise. I could go anywhere in the world, any country, any continent. But PP is the place for me. From the first day I saw it, I knew it was the place for me. It struck a chord in my heart. (Are there chords in your heart? Where ever they are, they were struck!)
So, all you critics and knockers of PP, you can keep your negative thoughts to yourself, I'm not interested. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. I love it and shall keep on returning. As long as I still have the air fare, I'll keep going back.
See you all in 38 days, 13 hours! I can't wait.

Totally agree Pollpott, we have been to some wonderful places across the world and are lucky enough to be going to some more in August and October, however Puerto Pollensa has "Something Special" about it. We first went to PP in 1976 as teenagers, our three children have gone since they were only months old and they all still love it. We are flying out on Friday afternoon to join my Daughter, Son in law and 5 month old Grandson, looking forward to another wonderful trip.

Well said Pollpott, PP is a magical place. In the 26 years we have had our holidays here a lot of changes have taken place, not all of them for the better but that has not taken away the essence of port.
So now we are fortunate enough to live in this beautiful resort and every day life gets better. To any of you who dream of living here one day, i say go for it and do it as soon as you can, i did and now i am living that dream.:D:D:D

Its been a home from home for us for over 20 years. First in Alcudia, now in Llenaire. Its one of the few places that we feel relaxed as soon as we get off the plane. That goes to prove something obviously. BUT, and BECAUSE of that, I do feel that every now and again I do deserve just a little right to comment on changes, albeit good or bad! Of course we love the island, hubby as even done work there. It would be a very boring forum if we all just kept on saying that everything is wonderful all of the time. Into each life a little rain must fall! - Just hope its not in 2 weeks time for a fortnight in PP!:)

Something Special

Like everything else in life, with a person or a place, when you fall in love with it(him/her:confused:) you want to hold to that moment forever, you do not wish anything to change. We all know life is not like that, but any "complaints" are merely people just trying to hold onto that, doesn't mean they have fell out of love with PP! Rightly so, when they see changes which, to them, are affecting the beauty of the place, then they have every right to have a pop! They are merely expressing a concern. Keeps people on their toes.

I totally agree with you Smiddy and everyone else.

I have been coming to PP since the late 60's and am fortunate enough to own a place that my dad bought in the mid 70's. I still love the place - it is the home I have known the longest in my life, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with any changes that are made that in opinion spoil the charm of the place.

It certainly isn't as quaint and pretty as it was when I first came and if we don't stick up for what we believe in, who will listen?

It's called "Evolution" and without it there would not be a PP. I dare say that back in the late 19th century or early 20th century the local people despaired when the first "Hotel/ B&B/ guest house opened it's doors. The fact is, if the powers that be stopped all developement then, none of us would be voicing our opinions now. THINK ABOUT IT people. It's here now, lets live for the moment.:D and ENJOY!!!!!

I cant wait to see Pollensa Town/PP for the very first time in 10 days :D I feel sure that we will fall in love with the place the same as everyone else!! I dont think I have ever been this excited before about going on holiday and the funny thing is, we knew we wanted to book a villa and chose Pollensa "at random" out of the brochure :)

Angie,

Sure you will enjoy it as much as us "First timers" did. It's a lovely, wonderful place. Just take a stroll along the Pinewalk on your first evening and you will see what I mean. The guys on this forum know what they are talking about (most of them anyway!). Could not believe how many restaurants in one town. Still discovering more up the side streets right up until the last day.

I so agree with Pollpot I actually came over all emotional after reading his thread as that is exactly how myself and family feel about PP. It has changed over the years some good some bad however every year I love it more. As we drive up to PP from Palma I actually have tears in my eyes and it is the same when we leave. It just has that effect on me.We have never had a bad holiday there.

Angie, I agree with everything that has been said about PP. I'm also going in 10 days time and can't wait. This will be our second visit. Maybe see you then. Anne

I totally agree that PP has a magnetic effect that draws us back again and again. We've been coming since 1994 and the pull is stronger still - despite some of the more dubious eateries!

However, we do venture elsewhere too, this year so far Lanzarotte and Menorca....both places we enjoyed and will return too.

And yet.............

I can only agree with all that has been said...a relative newcomer compared to some (we have only been going 10 years) there is just something about the place which, unlesss you have experienced, it then it is hard for others to understand sometimes.Yes there have been changes but nowhere stands still. We introduced friends and they too love it as much as we do.The last few years we have been lucky enough to manage 2 or 3 visits a year. Each one is different..April - I love seeing the place "open up" and doing the things you dont normaly do in the summer holiday when it is too hot to do much other than a collapse on the beach job...October -things are winding down for the winter...different again...
Roll on 11th July - now how many sleeps is that ;)

I think I said in another post 'if you love PP - you really love it' and thats how it is to me - it just 'gets you' under its spell, you cant explain it. We have travelled to many other beautiful places but we just have to have our PP 'fix' every year. In just two weeks I will be there and I know I will enjoy every minute of a fantastic holiday.

I think that's sorted , PP is the best place in the world. Agreed.

Totally, totally agree with everything that has been said......The missus & me normally try & stay on the Pinewalk just before it does the zig-zag turn by the phone booth heading towards Illa D'Or......I walk down every morning to get the papers from the Vora Mar Supermarket near BH, & every single time I take that walk I think to myself this must be the loveliest walk & view to get newspapers in the whole of the world let alone Europe.....

Have a great day everyone........

I too totally agree PP is a very special place, I had always said before coming to PP that I would never return to the same place twice...... there's a big wide world out there!!! Or so i thought, it was too late..... I'd been bitten by the PP bug.

Looking forward to returning soon.
