PP is winding down.

winding down

Just back from PP 3 lovely weeks with hubby, eldest daughter and her boyfriend, really lucky with the weather just a couple of days overcast and showers really so not enough to stop us doing anything, must say though in our travels out and about thought PP was very quiet compared to Alcudia, Soller and Porto Vells, not complaining though makes it easier to eat out in the evenings, just sort of expected most areas to be slowing down a tad at this time of year, but only seems to be in the port. Still roll on 6 weeks will be over again just the 2 of us.....
 
Walked through the square today and Bonys, Cafe L'Algar, Dakota Tex Mex and El Mojito are all closed for the winter.

I strolled along the sea front and it was very quiet and Capri was closed, Daina was desmantling and a few bars and shops were clearing things away. Here comes winter . . . .its going to be a long hard one for most.
 
Two years ago we were in PP the last week in October and noticed the winding down process really getting in to full swing.

Three years ago we were in Palma on a city break in mid November and came up to PP on the bus one day, snow on the mountains as we came up and boy oh boy, did we find the place deserted, got off the bus and our fellow travelers, six or so vanished in to thin air, and the freezing wind was blowing the sand in our faces, along the front and in the square.:mad:

In to cafe 1919, one of the very few places open for a little warmer!

But hey!:eek:

Still a lovely place to behold!:cool:
 
Hey Sparky mate can you confirm El Mojito is closing for the winter, their webpage says they are open all year, I was looking forward to getting my Tumbet fix in January?
 
Everything has been packed up in Mojito SWS but Makasaar is still open and of course Casinet is now open and they are all run by the same people so you may get your tumbet fix in there.

Question to the PP residents on here, do you like the winter months being less people around, do you find plenty to do to keep you occupied?
 
Hi Joanne i have loved the 2 winters i have spent here, yes of course many of the bars and restaurants are closed but there are still plenty that are open and because things are less hectic the owners and staff have time to chat, plus you get to catch up with people who have been busy working all summer. Also the supermarket queues are shorter and it's a pleasure to stroll around the market without getting your ankles broken by buggies. On sunny days you can go for walks (it's too hot in summer) or just sit outside with a coffee and watch the world go by.
 
Agree totally Sparky. I love it almost more than the summer - being able to get to places without being stuck behind coaches etc is great.
If ONLY I could keep the apartment just a little bit warmer! Good excuse to buy a pair of Ugg slippers though!;)
 
I totally agree too. The winter brings a different atmosphere. I just love the laid back approach rather than the busy busy with restaurants full and pavements overflowing.
Also agree with Bella re keeping property warm. This is a major problem with my villa especially as it is large and mostly open plan. We have 2 fireplaces and oil central heating but using the central heating costs an absolute fortune as the cost of oil is so high. I also think the insulation isn't the same as UK. Not sure what we can do really and we need to put some thought to this as we love to spend more time during the winter months.
 
I have to agree with Sparky and the others, it is a lovely time of year,plenty of gentle walks taking in a coffee stop and of course if you want it there are other things to get involved with. I am doing things I never had time to do in the UK. Anybody here at the beginning of Dec look out for Jack and the Beanstalk coming to a place near you!!!. As a friend said when I first came its lovely to see the visitors go and the place becomes home but then by March you are actually ready to start seeing them return.
 
Thanks lollipop that is so true, it's like the port and all it's residents take the time to re-charge the batteries. I enjoy the winding down but also look forward to the gearing up in Feb/March and count my blessings every day, come rain or shine, for this amazing place. :D;)
 
New to the forum but not new to PP. Just back from yet another really great week again in PP. We have been coming now nearly every year for just over 18 years. Have been at different times of the year but the last few years we been staying mid October. You could tell things were winding down but there were still a few people around. Weather as you know can be hit and miss at this time of year but last week apart from rain in the morning on the Monday it was really good.

After 18 years I never ever fail to completely relax as soon as I see the bay from where we stay on the Pinewalk. We have been on numerous holidays over the years but nowhere is more relaxing than PP.
Had a great week eating out with one of the hi-lights being the shoulder of lamb at Coral Bar. Only discovered it last year but certainly is on our favourite restaurants list. They were closing the night we went (fri) so I made sure we pre-ordered the lamb the day before. It was pretty full that night. Can't wait till next year and I look forward to reading the post's on here about such a great place!!
 
robo - know what you mean about the weather on monday - I got caught in the hail on my way to the bank:eek:

This time of year and deeper into the season is great - weather wise it is a bit like a box of chocolates;) but everybody has more time for you - we were in C'an ferra twice last week and it was lovely that Toni had time to pull up a chair and chat with us - no chance of that during the summer months. Also bumped into Toni's dad in the market in Pollensa and had a brief chat with him there which was nice
