I wonder if non-resident UK pensioners could get one of these.
Intermodal Card - CTM
The trip up to PP would be even better value! Or, with the fares being so well priced compared to UK, would it be Scrooge like to even enquire?

Despite all the doom laden financial media prophets can I wish everyone a happy and safe New Year.:):)

Lots of info on Intermodal Cards etc. on the CTM - ConsorciTransportMallorca - web-site. Find this by looking under "Once you are there - Buses & Trains" at Top Left on this web-site page (or any of the other PP pages on this web-site).
Listed below is an extract regarding the Intermodal Card. I think you would have to provide a residents NIE card to get one, Sparky or one of our friendly residents may know.

I believe you might be able to get a Card for reduced travel costs around Palma itself, look at the seperate web-site (different bus operater) by clicking on the number 1 (airport bus) timetable (again under Buses & Trains top left), there is lots of information there on that seperate web-site.

Intermodal Card Info below.

The Intermodal Card adapts to people's needs, with the following four typologies established:
Generic card (general use). Of standard design. For use by persons between 26 and 64 years that do not belong to collectives of other profiles.
Older persons' and pensioners' cards. Incorporates a distinctive white triangle in the design. Anyone can acquire this card who is 65 or over, or who receives a retirement or widow(er)'s pension, or an allowance for total permanent disability, absolute permanent disability or severe disability, or who has 65% or above disability.
Large family card. Incorporates a distinctive yellow triangle in the design. Anyone can acquire this card who proves that they form part of a large family.
Young person's card. Incorporates a distinctive red triangle in the design. Anyone can acquire this card who is younger than 26 years.

USER PROFILES
Users with discounted rate cards (older persons and pensioners, large family, young persons) can enjoy a discount of 50% on single tickets for general use, providing they present their Intermodal Card when purchasing and validating the ticket.

In order to obtain the Intermodal Card of a generic profile (general use) it is necessary to present a completed official application with a photocopy of your National Identity Document (original Identity Document for comparison). To acquire discounted rate cards (older persons and pensioners, large family, young persons) and therefore the right to a discount on the purchase of a single ticket, along with the above-mentioned documents the following should also be presented:

For anyone receiving a retirement pension, a certificate issued by the Regional SS Office indicating the address of the person in question, or by the Marine Social Institute, or by the competent body that has awarded it in other cases (in the case of Pensions under the Spanish Passive Class System, the competent body is the Tax Office - Passive Class System Department - as these are pensions paid by the State through the Ministry of Finance, Treasury Department; or a certificate from the corresponding benefit society).
For anyone receiving a window(er)'s pension, a certificate issued by the Regional SS Office indicating the address of the person in question, or by the Marine Social Institute, or by the competent body that has awarded it in other cases (in the case of Pensions under the Spanish Passive Class System, the competent body is the Tax Office - Passive Class System Department - as these are pensions paid by the State through the Ministry of Finance, Treasury Department; or a certificate from the corresponding benefit society). As well as the aforementioned certificate anyone interested in this profile should also present a copy of their last income tax declaration or certificate of bank deposits.

Where necessary, the disabled person should present a supporting certificate for the need for third persons to help move them, issued by the General Directorate for Dependency of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Promotion and Immigration.
For members of large families, the photocopy and original of the large family certificate issued by the corresponding Insular Ministry.
For anyone younger than 26 and older than 64, the presentation of their completed application and a photocopy of their National Identity Document (original Identity Document for comparison) will suffice, that proves this condition.

Clinkham, sorry for repeat information. Previous link didn't open when I first tried it, must have been me!!!

I think you have to have a Certificate of Residencia to obtain the senior citizens discount card. I remember when we got our CoR someone told hubby about this perk but he didn't bother as we don't use the buses that much.
Of course things could well have changed ;).

Sparky, you are right. You also need a certificate of pension which I think you can obtain via the consul office (if they are being particularly pedantic on the day you go.) Worth noting that it is over 65, as ladies here are not classed as Pensioners at 60 like in the UK.

Sparky has a few years to wait yet then! :p

Going to be using the airport bus and the bus up from Palma again in January, are the bus times listed here still correct? Thanks in advance :-)

I've just been checking these up with a view to updating our page. But before I do, can anyone local confirm that appear to be a lot less buses to Pollenca than last year? Previously there was a timetable for routes 340/341/342 from PP to Palma. Routes 341 & 342 were actually bus/train routes via Sa Pobla & Inca & stopped at Pollenca on the way. For 2012 I can only find route 340 - is there still a bus/train link? There are less buses that stop in CSV and some buses from PP to Palma involve a change in Pollenca.

I'll hold fire on updating our page at the moment as the links to the Website with timetables is correct but I'm not sure yet about the times and fares that we have posted. Any more info gratefully received! :)

Zelda, the line between Pollensa and Sa Pobla has been dropped. It is one a few lines to be taken out next year. Can't comment on frequencies, e.g. buses stopping in CSV, but I think it's reasonable to assume that what is now on the transport website is right.

Thanks Andrew. So I'll drop our section on getting to Palma by Bus & Train! We did it once & it made a nice change for us tourists but I can see lots of comments on the website referring to efficiencies etc. so it's no surprise they are dropped - that was Line 342.

Currently the link to the 2012 timetable for Line 341 (via Inca station) is going to the timetable for Line 340 - so maybe that will reappear..

But if not & there really is only line 340 now, the number of buses to Pollenca town have gone from 29 to 13! There only appears to be a bus from PP to Pollenca & then Palma at 07:15 & then 09:15 (i.e. nothing around 8am ) - maybe this meets the general demand.

There are also 3 buses to Palma (09:15, 10:45 & 15:15) where you now need to change buses at Pollenca.

Well I have updated the links to the timetables from our Bus Page - so please do check those & I'll update the times shortly - this is going to be a fun New Year!

Thanks Zelda, so just to confirm anyone wanting to catch the bus from Palma the route is 340 and times as follows, Sat and Sun 9.00, 11.30, 13.00, 15.00, 17.15 and 20.30. I will find out the bus stop number for you when I come over. All buses stop on the way at Estació d'Inca, trip times around an hour.

I have just read in a local paper that bus fares are set to increase by 23% from either 9th or 13th January , this was supposed to start from the 1st but has been delayed to allow students time to obtain their discount cards.

Thanks very much. And if you can also let us know what the fare is, although it may not have gone up by then (?), that would be great.

Re travelling by bus from the airport, I'm assuming that the airport bus now goes down to the new Bus/Train/Metro station beneath Plaça Espanya & you get off there to find the bus to PP? Years ago, my son was coming out & didn't know where to get off & ended up at the cruise terminal!:D It should be easier now...

No Zelda it stops in the actual Plaça Espanya above ground, just near the escalators which take you down under ground to the station, its well sign posted and you go to the level you need for the train or bus. On the buses there are LCDS signs telling you the name of each stop, so you need to look out for the Plaça Espanya, it should be fine, they could ask the driver who should let them know if they are unsure.

From th DB, new bus prices, Bus 1 from the airport now 2.50 each for a single, still good value, we paid 17 for a taxi before.

New bus fares now being charged in Palma Palma.—The cost of the “T-mes” card, which allows a passenger as many journeys as he wants within the space of a month, is going up from 27 to 37 euros, a Transport department spokesman confirmed yesterday. Separately, the “50 trips a month card” will now cost 29 instead of 23 euros.
A single ticket will now cost 1.50 euros one way, a price rise of 25 cents, and the cost of a one-way trip out to the airport on the EMT No. 1 service will go up from 2 to 2.50 euros, a 25 percent increase.

Those who have a Palma Citizens Card and who have the advantage of discounted bus journeys will be paying 80 cents a trip instead of 65; while school pupils over 16 and university students using the card will be charged 45 instead of 31 cents. Under 16s will have unlimited journeys for 7 euros a month.

There are new tariffs being introduced for card-holding pensioners and large families

As reported in the MDB here:- http://www.majorcadailybulletin.es/

I wonder if the fare from Palma to PP has gone up, this only seems to cover the Palma area . SWS please do let us know if there is a change in the fare :).

Hi Sparky, ok I will, I am expecting the fares to have gone up a bit, but still should be less than 6 euros I hope.

Update on the bus fares, No 1 bus from airport to bus and train station in Palma is now 2.50, and the 340 up to the port from there is now 5.75.

Thanks for the update SWS, so the fare from Palma to PP has not increased (it was 5.75€ last year), that is good news :D.
