I am climbing Ben Nevis in May for breast cancer and so thought I would have a practice run but opted for a mountain in a warmer climate. Oh my God, I have never done anything so difficult in my life, but after 4 hours, in beautiful sunny weather, I reached the top and it felt so good to have made it.
It really is an amazing experience though very challenging. I think I was the slowest person on the mountain that day, but it's not a race (although earlier yesterday, there was a running race up there, but they had long finished before I made it), its about enjoyment, (i had to keep telling myself that when it got really tough) and a sense of achievement.

My legs arn't half sore today tho.

Pops,

e-mail details on sponsership, please.

I used to to the Ben Lomond run/climb for The Blind. (When much younger and fitter).

Good for you!

Jimbo

Count me in for a couple of bob in sponsorship. Send me a note re: how to pay.

Jimbo and Graham.

Thank you so much, I am so touched by your kindness. I'm not sure how I can go about the sponsership but will try. However, if I can't just knowing you wanted to help has made my day . Thank you.

I recently lost a good friend to cancer and although I can't help her now, I want to do something for others.

Once again thank you so much guys.

You can set up on line sponsorship via a site caled "just giving" providing your charity is recognised

I did it when I did my sponsored swim last year .... it was dead simple

count me in for some dosh as well

A little fact that Pops is too modest to admit to ..............

Ben Nevis is the UK's highest mountain Elevation: 1,344 M (4409 FT)
Puig Massanella is the highest mountain you can climb on Mallorca Elevation: 1,352m (4435 FT)

Not bad for your 1st mountain and that it was about 25' in Mallorca that day!

Count me in on your sponsorship form!

Take care.

Pops,

Good for you! Many, many yeras ago I was into hill walking etc. and loved it. However now old and defunct.
When I face a chalenge, such as going upstairs to bed etc, I take one step at a time. Sounds simple but it works. Break it down into small sections, focus on that alone, then at the end of three steps, three yards, three miles, you are there.

Now for me, three inches, then.............

Good luck Pops, and enjoy,

best wishes,

jimbo

CD. I did a day walk from Cuber reservoir, over the Massenella
to Lluc earlier this year, using Valerie Crespi Greene guide,
Landscapes of Mallorca,Sunflower Books. Itseasy to follow and a great days walk and we saw the Black Vulture!

I take it all back, Puig Marsanella is not the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life, Ben Nevis is!!!

I can honestly say and the 29 other people in my group that left Stansted on friday and climbed Ben Nevis yesterday all agree that nothing prepares you for this mountain.

We had perfect weather conditions, while the south was raining, we enjoyed beautiful sunshine for most of the way up.The last hour we trecked through deep snow tho which was very difficult but again I never felt cold and I only put my coat on for the twenty minutes we stopped at the top. I never wore gloves, hat or anything else I had packed in my huge and heavy ruck sack.
Emotional and relieved to have made it to the top, I found going down was just as difficult and vowed I'd never do it again, tho Rob is trying to persuade me to climb it with him later this year.

I was so happy with my time 7 hours up and down, 4 up and 3 down. Our times for the group varied from 6 hours to 15.
More importantly alot of money was raised for breast cancer by all.

CD i will ask Rob about the book re Marsanella and let you know.

Pops, very happy and relieved ( with every muscle in my body aching)
