Quick collection parking at Palma Airport

I popped down to collect a friend arriving on a flight on Sunday. I had intended to park in the main car park but decided against it as most of the lifts & escalators are undergoing repairs/servicing at the moment. I decided to try to 'hover' somewhere near the Oasis Cafe in my car only to find that there are now free bays for parking there. You collect a ticket as you drive through & then you have 15 minutes free parking in the parking slots just before the cafe area (more or less where the original entrance to the hire car area used to be). As long as you present your ticket at the exit barrier within 15 minutes, hopefully having collected your additional passenger, you have nothing to pay.

On more than one occasion I’ve picked up at the departures drop off on the upper level. It’s easy for people arriving to go up a floor and, if you’ve outstayed you can always drive around again.

Getting rid of the collection bays a couple of years ago is what caused the problem in the first place. A short sited policy of trying to make a few extra euros created choas as more and more people used the drop off area upstairs when collecting people. At the height of summer this resulted in queues of cars and double parking due to the number of cars parked in the drop off area preventing genuine 'drop offs'. It looks like sense has now returned with the re-introduction of the collection area. Hopefully, in addition, the drop off area will now be policed properly and cars parked for more than the 5 minute limit removed.

In my defence, I only ever used the drop off area at quiet times, and drove to the very far end, which is generally quieter.

However......guilty as charged!
