Record Car Hire

Thank you for all the likes!;) Seeing I seem to have an audience on this subject, I've dug out he Record car hire paperwork.

The Citroen Nemo has a 45 litre tank and I was charged 82.93 euros for the diesel to fill it. That comes out at 1.84 euros a litre according to my fingers. I'm sure someone will be able to advise current price of diesel on the island, but I don't think it will be anywhere near 1.84  Possibly around 1.34?

The operatives suggestion we take the Nemo rather than the Berlingo I was expecting due to the Nemos smaller fuel tank, was probably good advice! The Berlingo tank takes 60 litres.

Whilst this thread is supposed to be about Record, I guess they are operating this full empty scam in the same way as other companies.

Once got caught in a traffic jam on the motorway and had the low fuel "bong" several miles from the airport. "Bricking it" all the way to the airport running on vapours.

NOT the way to end a car hire on a full/empty policy!

:D

Reluctant to use them again but the price was so competitive , even with the full / empty rip off (which wasn't too bad as it was half term and we thought we'd use the car a lot) we went with Record.

Arrived to massive queue on both sides of the desk, 5 staff working flat out (Spanish style !) , and constant flow of new arrivals , lots with Holiday Autos vouchers. Nearly 1 hour to get car, even though we are Record Club members and they have a Record Club "speedy" sign but no one manning it.

Charged 108 euro for full tank, so again just over 1.80 a litre which is criminal but is obvioiusly where they make their profits. Another rip off is car booster seats , they cost 11 Euro in Al Campo but over 4 euro a DAY from Record. So, either just play stupid and lift one or drive to Al Campo and buy one then leave it at the charity shop on the way home.

Decent car with 8k on clock and even had a warning triangle.

But is it worth the hassle of collecting and the car ? No, would only ever use them again as a last resort

Used record in the summer 3hrs plus queue BUT I went to the club record end of the counter and asked for club record priority service as the advertise
They checked; agreed I was a club record customer, commented on my multiple bookings per year over ten years or more and processed my car hire there and then

Great service from record but I then came in for lots of stick from people in the queue who were voucher holders via Do You Spain and holiday autos who were not entitled to club record priority service

I struggled to get them to understand, but for me it is simple if you always book direct with a company and join their loyalty scheme you are entitled to use the benefits it offers. If you are not a member then you are not entitled to the benefits

That said no one should have to wait in such queues

As for the fuel rip off at the end of the day if the total cost is still better despite the fuel charge, then it is a better deal
