Has the new road been finished past Inca. if so How long does the trip now take by car? :hat

Hi,
It will be next year before the new road is finished, although you diverted here and there at the moment on tempoary roads, which changes daily, the traffic is still flowing OK.
Allow a good hour at the moment from the airport to PP.

I believe it is scheduled to be finished in April 2006.
An hour is about right, but a word of caution - allow more for the return. On a number of occasions, we have been held up by temporary one way lights/ slow moving road building equipment etc. All of which happen at a moments notice. We always check in 2 hours before the flight and so leave PP area 3 hours the flight. This is adequate, but I wouldn't like to make it shorter.

Hi,
Although the road from Inca is temporary, just follow the flow, towards Alcudia.
At 50.5 Km is the only change at the moment on the Travel Directions From the Airport to Puerto Pollensa.
Because of the road works, you do not go quite as far as the Sa Pobla roundabout (as the roads to Sa Pobla and Pollensa are closed on this due to a new bridge being built) but a Left Turn to Pollensa is clearly marked a few hundred meters before the roundabout.

MAJORCA´S NEW 10 MILLION EURO SIX-LANE HIGHWAY TO THE NORTH - HIGHWAY TO INCA
THE new six-lane stretch of the Palma to Inca motorway was opened yesterday by Jaume Matas and a delegation of local ministers and mayors.
Work on widening the Palma to Alcampo exit of the palma to Inca motorway began 11 months ago in an attempt to ease the flow of traffic along the extremely busy stretch of highway which also feeds the Son Fuster and Son Casteloo industrial estates. The six lanes, three in either direction, starts at the Inca exit from the Via Centura and narrows back down to four lanes at the Alcampo turn off.
Widening the 4.652 metre stretch of motorway took a total of 11-and-a-half months to complete at a cost of 10.106.477'54 euros.
However, after months of inconvenience, drivers, specially those who work on or use the industrial estates yesterday welcomed the unveiling of the six-lane highway. Access to both industrial estates has been greatly improved with the construction of two roundabouts and a new fly-over.
Over 3'000 plants and trees have also been planted along the new motorway.
Jaume Matas said that the project is further evidence of the Balearic government's comittment to improving the region's road network and improving road safety. But, while drivers will now find it easier to get to Inca, many more cannot wait until the Inca to Sa Pobla stretch of motorway is finally completed.
Work is in an advanced phase but is not expected to be completed until summer next year. The Inca to Sa Pobla road is one of the worst traffic bottle-necks during the busy summer months and, once the new stretch of motorway is one, will open up the north east of the island.

There were reports in the paper when we were there of holdups at peak times of up to 2 hours to get around Inca. We had no problems, apart from being a bit slow, any time we went that way. Just a warning!

eeerrrrmmmm, don't know if anyone happened to watch the TV tonight 'Departure Lounge', happaned to watch by chance and there was a trip to Alcudia, and the comment about the transfer from Palma to Alcudia was - it took twice as long as expected. it can only get worse peak times... be warned.

Just a note of caution!
We are well-used to driving the road from Palma to PP, and have never had any problems finding our way, even through the busy Palma motorway.
However, when we arrived on the 20 August, we missed the new turning to PP completely!
Of course, I can blame hubby as he was navigating and there was probably WW3 brewing in the back seat, but the new turning is very easy to miss!
The old roundabout where you always turned off to PP is no more and you now have to go up to a new roundabout and come back on yourself, then turn right to PP. We missed the sign completely and went sailing past merrily.
We managed to find a narrow road to Pollensa just before we arrived in Alcudia and the route didn't really affect the time we got to our villa, but if you are arriving in the dark, it is worth looking out with extra vigilance. Of course, by the time I write this it may have changed again so any updates would be welcome!

We did the same & ended up on the road to Alcudia so turned round. Just keep looking for the signs. But as Jane says it may have changed again by the time anyone else goes.
