Season for Pools?

Having visited PP many times while staying elsewher on the island, we're thinking of renting an apartment next spring. We'd like one with use of a pool, but it occurs to me there's no point paying for one if it's not in use when we visit. Is there a 'standard' season for private pools to be open, or does it vary?

Hi Stuart!

I'm not sure whether there is an official season but I don't
think that most pools are open until April 1st. You would
have to be quite a brave swimmer to risk it before, as
although the weather can be warm the pools take a while to
heat up BRRR :eek :eek !

My husband dipped a cautious toe in our pool in March and
the look on his face said it all!

Our pool temperature this year has been.

Jan/Feb 9C
March 12- 15C
April 18 - 21C - quite nippy, not warm enough to laze in.
May 21 - 24C
June 24 - 30C - aah!

As you can see at 21C it was swimmable, but only just.It depends on your resiliance! In June it was perfect.

Last year we used the pool until the 3rd week of October when the temperature dropped from 24 to 21C, but bear in mind last October was unusually warm.

We're aiming for April 4th to 11th, so clearly, things will be marginal, though the kids are hardier than us oldies!

Stuart, Marginal? We were there same dates this year and even the polar bears were refusing to go in! Unless someone can suggest a heated pool somewhere i'm afraid swimming would be out of the question.:eek
