He may not be a comedian but he thinks he is pretty funny !

Actually, he is a great contributor .

Work progressing nicely.

Two men sweeping up all debris left due to the rain on the sea side, and on the land side, kerb stones being laid in front of Hotel Uyal.

The front is looking stunning now, all signs of the work have nearly gone as far as the eye can see, people in shorts, looks like summer has nearly arrived :):):)

The front may look stunning but it has become a virtual 'no go' area for disabled people, especially wheelchair users (such as our daughter) because, from what we have seen so far, there is a total lack of 'drop kerbs' to enable access to the pavements. For many people--both residents and the many disabled wheelchair users who visit the Port--it is impossible to get over the full height kerbs without serious risk. There is not even a drop kerb at the pedestrian crossing near the old bus station.

At a time when the needs of disabled people are supposed to regarded as important, it is outrageous that a scheme which has obviously cost a huge amount of money, effectively amounts to blatant discrimination.

I have lodged a letter of complaint with the Council and I hope that others will do the same--especially those busiesses which depend on provding equipment for disabled people.

They have stated that they will address this issues before the start of the season, although they should have done it straight away.

As stated in previous posts, the entire road surface from the roundabout up to Avda Paris ( just past Tolo´s ) is going to be pedestrian, in other words it will be at the same level as the pavements.

This will be done next winter.

From there up to Llenaire every crossing will be elevated to pavement level acting as speed bumps at the same time.

Hopefully these will be done before the 4th of May

As i have said before there are always tourists here, albeit not many during the winter but they are still around, the official start of the season has always been the 1st May :).

The only tourists that I saw were locals and cyclists

What? We obviously saw different things then because there were tourists over Easter. Admittedly numbers were down in my opinion from previous years but I've no idea what you mean.

You are right, there were tourists, but they were outnumbered by locals who came to spend the long weekend here and foreigners who came to cycle around the island. I didn´t see many "bucket and spade" types and if there were any they defintely weren´t staying at the hotels on the front.

Numbers were probably down as Easter was so early.

Not sure whether I count as a tourist or a local but I can confirm that there were quite a few tourists around last week and also, worryingly, I saw two people on mobility scooters (whether tourists or locals I have no idea), being forced to use the road as they were unable to access the pavement. At present in particular this is incredibly dangerous - work is still ongoing and the bits that are one-way are not being treated as such by the occasional car and also (no surprise here) by quite a few cyclists. I'm not sure how arrangements for cyclists will be sorted when the work is complete but at present it appears to be a bit of a free-for-all and without wishing to offend any cyclists they are not the best at sticking to the rules of the road (puts tin hat on, dodges below parapet). Anyway, I do agree that access ramps for wheelchairs should have been in place by Easter - that is when the season always starts, whether officially or not. How hard can it have been to put temporary ramps in place?

Cyclists

The cyclists seem to think that the no entry and one way sign means that they should go in the direction of the oncoming traffic and that pedestrian crossings are an opportunity to make people rush to get out of the way!

Easter Hols

Just to pick up on the comments about Easter tourists -
Not only was Easter quite early this year but UK school holidays have differed vastly, some schools have just gone back after their fortnight off and some are only just starting their fortnight today, so the UK Easter hols will have spanned four weeks overall. Some lucky friends of ours arrived at the weekend for their two week Easter break.

Going slightly off topic I know but there were a lot of ignorant cyclists out over Easter I thought.
Yes I know they're not all the same and bring in money blah, blah but someone is going to get hurt on the front soon. The authorities need to start cracking down on them riding on pavements, 4 abreast etc.
They're a welcome addition but only if they obey the rules.
