Arriving in the Port at 7.30 am this morning only to come face to face with a dustcart being driven the wrong way down the road just after Ave Paris.

Not a good start!

Having seen many seaside resorts on our drive down thorough France and Spain one of the many mistakes they have made here is that they have made the one way road too wide. If a road is wide enough for two cars to pass, then people are going to drive the wrong way.. either by mistake or because they think they can get away with it. If it was narrower this couldn't happen and also it would keep the speed of vehicles down. One place we visited on our trip had a raised kerb then a narrow grass verge between the road and cycle path, not only making a clear definition but also aesthetically much more attractive. At regular intervals there were gaps (with drop curbs ) for pedestrian crossings

I popped round to our 'village shop' to get some milk and was chatting to the owner about it all. When I asked him what he thought of the pavements and workmanship he raised his eyebrows and shook his head and said 'it's terrible and just looks so ugly'.

IMO I'm afraid he's absolutely right

Glad to see you arrived safe and sound, looking forward or not to seeing all these works in September for myself as its a never ending subject. Enjoy the deck chairs on the beach !!**.

"Bus stops in Puerto Pollensa
In Puerto Pollensa there was another complaint to follow those regarding the pedestrianisation work and absence of beach services. This one, as reported on Tuesday, had to do with the relocation of the bus stops to a position where residents are being "driven to distraction" by the noise and fumes. The town hall said that the siting of the bus stops is temporary and that a draft for the project for a new location will be available within two to three months. Residents subsequently suggested that they had received a rather different message from the town hall. Readers' opinions were pretty unanimous in attacking, for example, the "muddle-headed thinking of the town hall".

And perhaps spare a thought for the last item on this MDB page.....

We are visiting for the first time this year and think the changes are a vast improvement. They are bound to take a little while to bed in but before long I doubt anyone will be arguing seriously for the previous layout to be reinstated.

See the council have got their act together today....I know what we will do to mess up, let's paint the pedestrian crossing lines as we do for two way traffic.

If your comment relates to the layout then many won't argue although it's still to be seen how well it works. If your comment relates to the quality of the job all I can say is wait until you get here before commenting. The Bulletin was right this week in suggesting all political parties and the community need to get together to fix the current problems. This must however include a complete review of phase one and the agreement to redo all the pedestrian surfaces again. In my opinion this should be done over 2/3 years with a start being the pavements upto avenida de Paris. I thought on my first visit the shop side of the road might be considered acceptable but frankly it looks absolutely terrible. No visitor to the port would ever believe this is a new scheme only just completed. I have yet to speak to one restaurant owner or shop keeper who thinks it is anything but a disaster. On our recent trip across Spain every municipality had taken great pride in the pedestrian areas of their playas. Everyone should keep the pressure up on the local council so that the winter activity next year starts putting our world to right.

Below is a translation of a DDM report :-

The consistory threatens to call the guarantee Boardwalk
The Executive noted several shortcomings that the company must correct from November.

The company that carried out the works of semipeatonalización of the first line of Port de Pollença must correct some deficiencies identified by the City or not receive a refund of the deposit.

Although the official deadline for completion of the works ended on May 4, finishing work still stretched fortnight due to performing tasks Woodland placement or application of the resin of new pavements.

Now the construction company has presented the minutes of receipt of the works with a final budget of 909,409.74 euros, although the council is reviewing this last certification before accepting to finely adjust the price work performed.

The minutes of receiving the technical report indicates shortcomings, as already mentioned, in the work which, given the lateness of the season, the City Council has demanded that will have to be amended from the first of November included.

Repairs

The amendments described consist pavement repair areas that have damage, marks or footprints not foreseen in the project. And you should also supply street furniture that are pending (banks, etc ..)

If the company does not correct these defects "the City will not hesitate to use the endorsement of the works to execute directly," says Tomeu Cifre Bennàssar, spokesman for the government team.

From the City "understanding the different groups and individuals of Puerto Pollensa who have had the patience to endure the discomfort of the work despite having started the season. Some annoyances that have their origin in the lack of foresight of the previous is appreciated government team, which set a deadline of eight months, and that the contractor reduced to six ". Tourist Places Consortium, with the current City Hall and the hotel association asked the company a subdivision of the execution period provided for in the contract two winters; fractionation did not accept it.

The current government considers that the works have improved the frontline port, but that "in its current state, just with the project designed in the previous legislature, the level still has not reached what we consider the Puerto deserves Pollença. so is finalizing the draft of the second phase, which will completely peatonalizar by slots the central section of the first line, which provides a wider and safe bike lanes, better finishes by the wall of the beach and more and better street furniture, bins, as well as provide more vegetation to the first line, "said the official spokesman.

Thanks for this Sparky. It confirms my point that the Council are under pressure on the quality and are planning improvements for next year. The failure in this project was that it went off half cock without getting a proper quality specification agreed in terms of what the Council were trying to achieve and the materials they intended to use. The second phase must not be allowed to progress in the same fashion, vague comments about what is wrong and what needs to be put right are simply not good enough. An agreement on what is wrong and the specific improvements required to put it right are critical and there is clearly time available now to do this. All the more reason that everyones voices should be heard loud and clear to prevent a similar outcome next year.

I am afraid that the council probably don't read this forum so your opinion won't be seen. For your voice to be heard you will need to email the council direct, here is the link :- Formulari de contacte | El web oficial de l'Ajuntament de Pollença.

He has sparky :D

Just hope that others will follow suit. Everyone we've spoken to think it's appalling, but seem to think that nothing can be done now. If people take this laissez-faire attitude nothing will be done. Hopefully everyone on this forum who feels the same as we do will email the council as well.

This is why i have posted the link for anyone who feels strongly about this subject one way or another. It really is pointless to comment on this forum, best to take it to the "organ grinder" so to speak ;).

Businesses unite in condemning town hall for Puerto Pollensa problems » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

Businesses in Pollensa are demanding that urgent measures be taken to alleviate the damage that has been caused to the tourism image of the municipality by issues such as work on the coastal road, problems with mobility and the delay in providing beach services.

There has been a meeting of representatives of associations for restaurants, holiday rentals businesses, retailers, residents and hoteliers. This assessed the situation in Puerto Pollensa and demanded that the town hall assumes its responsibilities and takes urgent action and establishes a proper management plan, agreed with all sectors.

They appear to be doing some work on the parking side of the front, may be bike parking or motorbikes, hopefully with posts to secure to, can someone on the ground confirm what they are doing, its outside Sea.bar.is and la Marina (think thats what its called)?

La Maina?
Looks like motorbike markings alright.

The zebra crossing fully painted for bidirectional car traffic ...

And a bus parked on the cycle lane across the sea bar ...

Could it be to stop parking close to the corner as this could cause problems for the buses turning up into Calle Bot .

Could well be, though zooming in on the picture it doesn't quite look like 'no parking'-markings.

Apart from the odd Transunion bus I haven't seen any buses turning up Calle Bot.
