We havent seen all this yet so will reserve judgement on the finish but must admit think making pavements wider and less traffic wins with us as especially near some of the Restaurants and shops nearer the town it was always a case of stepping into the road as so many people and obstacles on the narrow pavements

Budget wise perhaps they have done what they can afford ? Most of our pavements in the UK are even in major towns dreadful Paving stones up to trip over and nowadays never repaired A local council in supposedly the best village in the UK have just spent £6000 on 6 metres of cycle lane which comes out on a busy corner where cars are parked !!! Its only about 4 miles from where we live and is ridiculous !

We would certainly have been upset about the beach beds but would have made the best of it off to a local shop for some and it wouldnt stop me coming back next year and after that again and again as well we hope ![/

Copper undoubtedly the widening is the upside and was definitely needed. We must not allow the Council off the hook however, by saying this was all they could afford. This is not you and me with our limited budgets. This is a major Council making choices on where to invest. Businesses do not skimp on quality in these situations they stagger the work. As WDS says they should have programmed the work over time , in my opinion this should have been to Avenida de Paris this year. This would have controlled cost and ensured the work was completed to time. They could have then focused on ordering the beach beds in time which in turn would have increased revenue to support phase 2 next year. It really isn't rocket science. The problem with implementing a cheap and nasty finish is that it will encourage people to treat it accordingly, like the old car left on a street in disrepair very soon it will be a stripped out old banger. It's a slippery slope and Pollensa is on it.

I am sorry it has come to this but i feel i have no other option except to close the thread which would be unfair to those who are waiting to see the work/seats for themselves before voicing their opinions .

Hi Favie, i was not saying you had to have seen them in person before commenting, but i am saying that if members have already shared their opinion they shouldn't keep repeating themselves .

I'll be able to see them for myself in 3 and a bit weeks, so will have a definite opinion then. Plus, I get that I'm a tourist, not a resident, so have different priorities!

I know aesthetics are important, and there seems to be an acknowledgement from some posts, that improvements will be made on the quality of the surface once the season ends, but in my opinion, providing there aren't sink-hole size holes where damage could be done, people will generally be more enamoured with the view of the beach and bay rather than wondering what shade of grey they are walking on. Yes, it mightn't be a perfect finish, but what's done is done, so I know looking down, shaking my head and sighing won't make it change. I'll just look up and enjoy the reason I go back to PP - the view!

As for the seats, they are different - so obviously some people won't like them. Others will. To me they will provide somewhere to sit for a minute and have a break and a drop of water. I've sat on worse! Again, I won't concentrate too much on the shape of my seat, when I'm looking at the view. If anything, they get people talking which has to be a good thing!

Anyway, I reserve the right to change my opinion in 3 weeks when I see them, however my hope is that I probably don't even notice!! There are better uses for my eyes.

I agree. The new seats surely can't be worse that sitting on broken solid concrete benches, some with the bare metal reinforcement bars sticking out, looking at a road?

I have bicycled past these benches at least five times this week. They may not be my cup of tea, but they really aren't "too" bad. All of the photos you've seen show completely empty benches. I've see many people enjoying them - families taking a break, kids eating ice cream, and couples on the loungers. In short, they look a lot better with people on them

Good news on the Bonys front - apparently the council have now given him permission for 35 tables, which I would have thought was fairly close to what is there already, and contrasts with the 15 they had said he could have the previous week. Great result. Sorry to hijack the thread.

I have mobility problems as does my husband and neither of us can walk far without stopping for a little sit down. I know that we could/do sit outside at a cafe/bar for a rest and have a drink but we don't want to do that every 10 minutes. The white star shape seats won't suit us, we need something to lean back against which is why we will miss the old fashioned bench type seats.

To the previous message I would simply say whilst I am sympathetic to their disability, there are many of the original bench type seating still avaliable and in my humble opinion the powers that be have tried to provide what they can on their allotted budget. For many years I have heard people complain on various out lets about the condition of the pavements ect in the port, now it would appear that to make the problems of dog poo. chewing gum ect less of a problem they have laid a sensible easy clean surface along the promenade , which I think is a damn good idea. In my opinion , visitors to to the port should bear in mind that a high percentage of the debris including the offensive is left by the tourist public. I have even seen on this site a complaint about the noise made by the street cleaning teams, where I live in the U.K. I would be delighted to see one. Come on now ,
give them a break, back home it took me 4 years to get a depression in the road which flooded my drive entrance to be fixed ( no offence to you Nigel Frost ) so lets be sensible and give the authorities a chance

I haven't read all the posts in this thread but thanks to slipalong and lola for reassuring me that not all the old bench type seats have disappeared. The impression I had was that they had been replaced by the white 'sculpture' seats or concrete 'deckchairs' but I am very glad to know that I have got it wrong.

I like the seating. I think it brings a touch of modern class and interest to the front. A lot of people find change difficult to adjust to. Once used to it I think it will be accepted. I remember people being upset by the first square block type house in llenaire. They are now normal. I think this seating will soon become normal to. It's just different but I think it looks great. As for the pavements well they look so much better than before as well. Ok a bit of dirt and the odd crack but new visitors to the port wouldn't be aware. I don't think all this negativity is doing the port and favours to be honest. Everyone entitled to their opinion but all these posts? It is as it is and in my view a good improvement.

My sister - a regular visitor for 25 years - has just returned from the first of 3 trips this year. She raved about the Illa D'or and the wonderful service they received, the great weather, cava on the beach on her 25th wedding anniversary, the best steak EVER ay Hostal Bahia, the beautiful apartment they've found for their family holiday in Pinaret... All in all she said it was another wonderful break. I asked what she thought of the pavements....she said 'They're wider and much better but I didn't notice anything else about them' I look forward to forming my own opinion very soon, but I personally don't think the quality of the pavements will be an issue for the vast majority of visitors, regulars or new, in comparison to everything else PP has to offer.

I still don't like the "block type" housing that has sprung up in Llenaire - give me old fashioned traditional every time - with all mod cons obviously!
