We were in PP 2006 & 2007 but didn't go last year, so we couldn't wait to return with our 18 month old daughter this year.
We were staying in an apartment not to far from the Pollensa Park Hotel.
We generally had lunch back at the apartment – mostly salad, fresh baguette and a glass of rose, but also had a very tasty chicken from the Golden Lion once.
We ate out most evenings but also had a few dinners back at the apartment.
When we're away for two weeks we mostly skip the starters - not so much because of the price, but otherwise we're too full to enjoy all the gorgeous food in the second week.
And having a bit of a sweet tooth it leaves space for the odd desert with coffee/cappuccino/brandy.
We shared our dinners with our daughter. She would happily eat either of the dishes we ordered, more often than not she was happy to eat both.
Living in Ireland we're used to higher priced restaurants (and the Euro) so we thought that price-wise we couldn't fault PP although there are exceptions to the good value.
Here is a short report about the restaurants we went to:
Started off with Ca'n Josep. Couldn't resist to try it out as it had a lot of positive reviews. The fresh warm rolls with the delicious aioli started our PP trip off well. The sea bass and chicken breast we had were equally good and we found the side veggies (and potatoes) tastier and more varied than in most other restaurants.
Tiberi was our choice for the next dinner. Satisfied with the veggie stir fry (quite a bit different from the last visit 2 years ago) and very good lamb chops.
Couldn't wait to re-visit the Cellar La Parra, one of our favourites. Walked by the day before to book table (and a portion of suckling pig). Cellar one of the few really busy places this visit – obviously a lot of returning regulars enticed by very good food and very friendly service.
The suckling pig a little salty in places but otherwise delicious, the lamb chops tastier than in Tiberi's. The sides could be improved in their variety, but his chips call out for an extra helping.
Then we made our way to Tango's. New location has a great view across the bay and is about a 15 min walk from Tamarells/Carrer del Bot(?). Menu deal still great value and after Spaghetti Bolognese/Fish/Choc cake and Prawn Cocktail/Chicken breast/Mousse and a bottle of red vino walked happily back to the apartment.
Time to try out Torre Playa. The Cod dish was very tasty but was obviously already waiting a while for the big and tasty portion of Mixed Paella (they do Paella for 1 person). Service was a bit on the slow side and not very attentive. As we were quite early and the place was half empty there's no excuse for that.
Friday evening we were off to Tolo's where we enjoyed Spaghetti Pesto (un-Pesto-like with cream?!) and a very nice chicken breast stuffed with prawns. The service can be a bit hit-and-miss in Tolo's sometimes, but this evening we couldn't fault anything.
We decided on a quick pizza in Eolo the next day. Nice service and wafer-thin pizza bases made it a very tasty treat. And it's really good value too.
Ice cream from across the road and a sea-front walk rounded off the evening nicely.
Friends of ours stayed in Alcudia and we met up one evening to go to Ca'n Josep. Fresh warm rolls again, followed by chicken breast, duck, cod fillets and lamb chops for the 4 of us.
Our daughter enjoyed the additional choice and had great fun.
Bit of an issue about the wine as the menu offered the Macia Batle Crianza for 16.95 and we were offered a bottle of regular Macia Batle. No Crianza could be found and the waitress insisted that the price would be as per the menu. Changed the wine selection but couldn't shake off the feeling that it wasn't entirely accidental.
Almost tradition by now – last evening back to the Cellar La Parra. Booked table early again, but availability of suckling pig unsure. After arriving we scanned the menu for alternatives but were told that suckling pig was available after all. Great joy all around – daughter was delighted too. This time we didn't forget to order the extra portion of chips. Macia Batle Crianza (for 15 Euro) was indeed Crianza and after cappuccino and an extra-large brandy we said good bye until next year.
A mention for not so good value goes to the Daina. Only had coffee and juice, but 2.55 (for cappuccino) and 3.40 (for orange juice) we felt was a bit much. Went there quite often on our last visits and we don't recall it being that overpriced.
We mainly shopped in Eroski but also went to the Hiper supermarket. You have to look at the price tags in the supermarkets not to get caught out, but overall – compared to Ireland – we found it wasn't too dear.
We found the Schlecker market very good value for nappies and other bits.
Can also highly recommend the Salvation Army charity shop for kids/beach toys as well as the Multihire shop.
