Tango/Can Josep

You need the average punter to go as well, and a lot of them will not even walk a few streets back from the front, let along a few hundred yards! just look at O'Lume

This is so true.

Whenever we have guests over and we eat in the Port, they want to go to the front.

THE main attraction is the beach and the sea -It is what people come away for.

To be able to sit outside of an evening, eating great food, whilst next to the water is what makes PP for many.

Josep is an experienced business man and will - hopefully - know exactly what he is taking on, along with any inherent problems of the new site. His new business is bound to be somewhat different than at present, most probably incorporating the garden areas.
He has built up a good clientele over many years and a goodly number of them will hopefully follow him out to the former Tango Ca Vostra site.
I’m another who has patronised both C’an Josep and Tango over the years and will continue to do so on my visits to PP (though once a year is hardly regular custom!).
There are a goodly number of folks out at the Llenair / Pinaret / Gommar areas of PP as well as those former regulars who will make the effort to go to the new “Ca’n Josep”.
It is not exactly ‘miles’ away!
I have walked / taxied as I felt appropriate on several occasions. The relaxing walk along the wonderful sea-front with views of the bay is a good twenty mins or so from the Harbour / Marina whereas a five minute taxi can also be taken from the Harbour / Marina as well, and even the Alcudia bus can be used at present from the same location.
So just relax, have a pre-dinner drink or two in PP then take a walk or a taxi (for less than the price of two sunbeds / parasol) as the mood takes you and be sure to visit a restaurant where you are guaranteed a good welcome and an excellent meal. So good luck Josep….. hope all goes well with your proposed new venture.

And… the same to Manolo and staff, best wishes on your move. I’m sure that the majority of patrons who presently choose to eat at Trio will continue to use the same premises and visit the new Tango. It is now many years since Tango was last in town but regular long standing visitors to PP still remember them well and are sure to visit the revised location once they ‘sus things out’.

Best wishes to Josep and the team. I have always enjoyed my visits there.
Any news on who would be taking over his premises ( hopefully not another poxy Dakota's in one of their many guises)

Don't beat about the bush, Say what you really mean. :)

I get a bit tired of people moaning about Dakota/Tex Mex so do hope that this isn't going to start again! We have to remember that people do actually live in PP and I am sure their youngsters probably enjoy places like this as a change and also Burger King, just as our kids do.

These places provide work for local people and who are we to dictate what type of establishments they may wish to have in THEIR town?

We have had some decent meals in the branch in the square in the past and indeed when our children were first old enough to venture out on their own they went to Tex Mex and enjoyed it. They are a bit more discerning now but it is still a reasonable place to go and at least you know what you are getting. We have had some very disappointing meals and service in Nicos since they have been in the square and wouldn't bother going there again.

Live and let live I say.

You are absolutely right Tangofan and "us locals" also enjoy a good "ruby" or "chinky" sometimes ;);).

Would disagree about Nico's, we have been in a few times over the last few years and we have had some good meals in there and the service is always friendly

I understand what you are saying MWC but i feel i must point out that 10€ is a lot of money for some tourists.
This summer has been very difficult for a lot of restaurants, yes they have had plenty of people through the doors but many have been on a very tight budget, for example, in one restaurant a family of 4 came in and bought 2 soft drinks for the children then ordered 1 MDD for 10€ and shared it between them all. I have seen many people sharing 1 meal because they didn't have enough money for more, so they will not even think about paying taxi fares to go out of town.

I really hope next year is better for everyone but unless more people have more money to spend the restaurants that have survived so far will have a huge struggle on their hands.

As a follow up to this post, i have just read this in the Majorca Daily Bulletin

Foreign tourist spend down in the Balearics.

Palma.—Foreign tourists spent 10,164 million euros in the Balearics between January and October, data from the latest Tourism Expenditure Survey (Egatur) reveal.
This corresponds to a decrease of 2.9% over the first ten months of 2013.
The spend in the Balearics was the third highest in Spain behind Catalonia (13,609 million) and the Canary Islands (10,209 million).
Taking October alone, spend in the Balearics was down by 8.6% to 831 million.
Average expenditure was 871 euros (a fall of 11.8%), while the daily expenditure average fell by 12.3% to 104 euros.
For the whole of Spain, a new record for the January to October period was set, with foreign tourist spending up by 7% to 56,374 million euros.
The Egatur data show that average daily expenditure stayed steady at 109 euros, while the average expenditure for a whole stay was down a fraction (0.4%) to 967 euros.

They are very busy painting, changing lights and hoping to open first half of February.

Can anyone please nail the exact location of Josep's new restaurant? Perhaps a Google snapshot or a descriptive note.

many thanks,

Jimbo

Hi Jimbo , hope you are well, it's easy, you walk along the sea front heading towards Alcudia and as you leave the port its right there, not far, 15 mins or so from the port

I don't really think location is that important, if the place is special people will go. As regular visitors to PP, Can Pacienci was our fav restaurant for years and that was a taxi ride away.

Plenty of info about the new Can Joseph.Anyone got any info about the new Tango?
