Without having seen the work you are referring to I cannopt be sure, but I would be surprised if the circle you refer to is the start of a permanent roundabout. It is more likely to be some accommodation works.

Usually (in the UK at least) connecting roundabouts are about the last thing to be built - or so I am told - as they usually link up with existing roads. Otherwise the disruption to traffic on the existing road is more severe.

I also cannot see why they would need another roundabout unless it is to give access to an undeveloped area.

Finally, WRT plans, there were some on a previous thread, provided by Barnard Hamilton. I think they may have gone in the 'great hack'.

It's beginning to happen.

Went for a walk round Llenaire this evening and was passed by at least 8 large lorries carrying hardcore to the end of the road by the Bahia Pollensa Aparthotel. (I think it's Cirerer)
I was able top walk onto the site, look left, and there are piles of hardcore as far as I could see. There is also a sign saying it's the ring road and which road is being diverted.
When I walked on further in Llenaire I got to the bit of tarmac that everyone says will be the start of the ring road and the hardcore is nearly there, so the hardcore goes round the back of Llenaire from before Rest. Llenaire to just before Bahia Pollensa Aparthotel. It won't be long before its heading towards Gommar.
On the way back, I was passed by another 4 lorries.

Mmm, saw a lot of activity when we were there the week before too. The police were taking a little interest in who was actually dumping "hard core" at one point. There are also 9 abandoned cars in the corner of the field which really spoils the view (!). I even saw and shouted at (how brave!) a couple of school kids throwing stones at the car windows! "OY!" in any language has the little tykes running!

When I enquired about who to notify, red tape abounded re the adjuntementa - sorry about spelling - and whether they would do anything anyway. There was also an abandoned car outside the entrance of the Bahia apartments Hotel. Hope this isnt a sign of things to come around Llenaire!

I think that the "abandoned" cars are actually abandoned cars put there by the ajuntamento!
There is a place they take abandoned cars to, by the side of the police station in town, and I think they are using the area in Llenaire for this end of town.
The only reason I think this is because we had an abandoned car near to us. The police came and put a ticket on it, and eventually it was towed away. It's one of the cars in Llenaire near the new road-works now!

New Road

The new road is progressing!
Last week the diggers could be seen approaching Gommar from Llenaire.
Now if you stand at the bottom of Falco near the back of the Pollensa Park, the diggers are on the other side of the fence.
If you go along Falco and into Pinaret, last week there were trees marked with flourescent orange paint, and this week they have been dug-up and cut up!
Some people think that this is in readiness for a roundabout to allow access into Gommar and Pinaret somewhere on Calle de La Cadernera (the road that goes from Habitat towards Pollensa Park Hotel.) The trees that have been taken down are on the left, off Cadernera, as you turn left into Pinaret.
Apart from this, the sea front is still being dug-up for drains, and roads off the Formentor Road look like battlefields!

Out of curiosity does anyone remember when the promenade was a road and Cactus, Brisas and Iru bars had tables on the beach side of the road and you had to pay an extra peseta to have the witer bring your drinks across the road?

Perhaps we shouls start making sings up for Puerto Pollensa Nova!!

We remember it well, only at the weekend we were looking at photographs of us with our car parked on what is now the pedestrian precinct, this was in 1976.

There's an article on the MDB site this morning about the road, just to keep everyone up to date:

AFTER suffering an initial delay of three months, the work on the second phase of the Port de Pollensa by-pass is going well.
The Council of Majorca's councillor for Town Planning, Joan Cerda, predicted that the road could be open to traffic by the Summer of 2008.
The by-pass will connect the Ma-2200 road (from Pollensa to the Port of Pollensa) with the Ma-2220 road (from the Port of Pollensa to Alcudia) at the Sant Jordi Torrent crossroads. Work on it started six months ago, but at the start they could only mark out the route of the road as the process of compulsorily purchasing the land alongside the route of the road had not been completed. Now the initial problems have been overcome, the work is going ahead. At the moment they are working on the area of Llenaire towards El Moll.
It is expected that shortly they will be working towards the Gotmar area. During the Summer, the construction company will be working on the rural area between Llenaire and Alcudia, because it is an area away from the town so the inconvenience to the residents will be minimised.

Joan Cerda also explained that “the council has approved a modification to the project to take advantage of the work to install pipes which could take water to Llenaire, which, at the moment, has to manage on its own resources. The council is currently negotiating this with the Council of Majorca”. The second phase of the by-pass project will cost the Council of Majorca 5 million euros. Its joining with the first phase, which links the Port of Pollensa with Formentor, will take traffic away from the sea front.

Unless of course you happen to have an apartment overlooking said 'rural' area, in which case you might well be inconvenienced.

Hopefully anyone in this situation will feel that a summer of 'inconvenience' is a small price to pay - but I doubt it!

Well said allenglens (sorry if name wrong, I cant see it again whilst typing!) We do indeed look over the ex-field that housed the ex-goats/sheep with tinkling bells that is now a car dump and road entrance in Llenaire, and I am feeling more and more depressed about it ! As we are only there in March then renting until September, hopefully we will miss most of the construction, but somehow I just dont think so!!! :rolleyes

Ok, it is actually worse than I feared! I have downloaded a few photos onto flickr which give a rough idea of works in progress. Trying desperately to think of something good to say about it all - well, at least the abandoned cars have gone!
The road works have come to a halt by Llenaire for two reasons at the moment
1. They have dug so deep that they have hit the water table and cant drain the new lake they have developed (who did the geological surveys then??)
2. They have uncovered some Roman artifacts and need to get the relevent authorities in to do their bit before continuing!

What more can I say? Not a good week for our visit, will also download some of the storm pictures, although didnt manage to get when they closed the Alcudia - Pollensa road on Sunday due to severe damage! :rolleyes

Hi Belladonna. Had a look at the photos, you seem to have had a somewhat stormy time! Hopefully the building of the new road will go faster than you think and once its done all the upheaval will be forgotten. Our apartment is near the new Formentor road, which is really quiet, and hopefully your side will be the same. There will still be people like us who prefer to travel on the coast road rather than a bypass!

Our problem is that we have the old peoples home added to the new road in the field, which means that our slip road will be used more than usual and the actual road is now quite close - as you can see from the photos - to the back of the apartment driveway. At least its not a noisy hotel - although some of these retired folk can get pretty frisky!! :eek

We have the formentor bypass directly behind our apartment but apart from the street lamps showing above the bank at the back of our apartments, you wouldn't know it was there. There is more noise & disruption from building new apartments nearby than there is from the bypass.

Yes, I wouuld definately choose a quiet road being built as opposed to another block of apartments, although I am always going to miss the sound of the goats coming down the hill with their bells. Progress eh?!
