Can Josep, esp when Mariana Miranda, the guitarist, is on

Tango, el fabbo location, food, welcome & value ( good for kids)

Strawberry Fields Forever villa, when we cooked fresh chicken/chorizo/pasta/salad with cheap, wholesome local ingredients from markets, with a selection of local reds to wash it down....

Corb Mari (for quality), Little Italy (for great pizza and atmosphere), and Los Pescadores for the fish and the view.

Tricky one this!
Current favourites :-
1) Celler la Parra - great traditionally cooked food open most of year and lovely staff
2) Little Italy - great location and wonderful Italian food. Guys working there are great fun too!
3) Los Faroles - lovely location, nice food, good service, open most of year

OK, having stayed in PP for over 15 years and seen many changes to all the restaurants over that time, our votes:
1. C'an Josep - best food, host, vista and overall quality
2. Los Zarzales - great food but a little expensive
3. Bar Joker - trust me on this - the food is really only good honest fare but it's tasty. Add in the location and the price and you have a real winner. You can eat here every night of the week.

In the town, try Eu Centro (Caller Temple) for Tumbet on a Sunday after the market, it's brilliant.

I would like to vote for La Fortalesa beacause we have had many lovely meals there but sadly I hear it has closed? Martine has always been a great host. The last time we were there (2009) the food and service were both a bit off however.

Not sure why all the votes for El Posito? Went there once - never again!!! Food, service and everything was not even barely adequate and grossly over priced.

Interested in this thread that someone compared Ca'n josep to Simbad. Apart from that they are geographically close, I fail to see the connection.

I am afraid I am going to have to agree with previous post regarding El Posito. We too have been coming to PP for the last 15-20 years, and gave it a try last week following all the rave reviews.

One Frito Mallorquin to share, 1 lamb, 1 suckling pig, 1 tiramisu dessert to share, coffeees and brandies. 75 euros.

The service was too fast, it was if they were trying to get you in and out as quickly as possible, and the food was far too salty. I also thought it was expensive for the quality of food served.

On the plus side all the staff seemed very pleasant.

Interesting comments re El Posito.

Do they still have an unpriced menu?

We were very dissapointed in El Posito this year as well, i know they want to make the most of the summer season but we were hurried in and out so fast we didn't have time to relish the food, and we were not even asked if we would like to see the sweet menu so it's thumbs down for this place this year i'm afraid.

As far as i am aware all prices are displayed both outside and on the menu you are given when you are seated with the exception of the "specials board" which have to be pre-ordered and are price on request. I also know for a fact that the main menu and drink prices are the same as last year, again with an exception of the lunch time MDD which has increased this year from 9€ to 10€.

To other posters,
As for the other concerns about food quality and poor service, i do hope you made your feelings known at the time so as to give them the opportunity to put things right, however i will pass these comments on to Toni tomorrow as i am certain he will make sure these things do not happen again.

Returned today from my 3rd visit to PP and enjoyed some lovely meals with my favourites being:

1. Los Pescadores - Great location, great food and wonderful attentive service.
2. Hells Kitchen - Smashing service, great value food which is beautifully cooked and the wine we chose was gorgeous.
3. Hotel Bahia Restaurant for the location and great sea food and paella.

We were in PP three weeks ago and La Fortelesa was open then - Martin and Pauline were as welcoming as ever and we enjoyed our meals as we always have done. However I think the restaurant might be for sale as Martin is retiring I believe. We will miss it, we've never had a bad meal there and always visit at least once on every trip.

We were there the week before BigErn. We must be more economical than him:) On my restaurant review I note we paid 45 euros (£18.50 ea) for John Dory and a tenderloin. At this distance can't remember what else, though beer/wine/water/coffees would certainly be included. Probably no starter or sweet.

It was one of the best meals of our visit.

We had a bad experience last year but thinking about it Toni wasn't there and there was an important football match on the tv.

Over the years, though, we have been more than satisfied and we keep going back.

Our favourites would have to be

1.....Los Zarzales....superb food, great service

2.....El Posito......again first class food and general atmosphere...especially Sunday lunchtime

3.....O'Lume......overall experience

We were in the fortunate position of being able to eat out each night and over the two weeks, visited each of the above more than once. There was really not much difference in cost between them and I can't say I noticed much difference over last years prices.
We introduced our daughter, her husband and our 7 month old grand-daughter to the delights of "God's country" and the Port now has 3 new converts

Really surprised re the comments about El Posito. On the three occasions we were in, it was certainly up to it's usual high standard. In fact their suckling pig was just a tad better that that served in Los Zarzales and that says a lot.
As regards being hurried out, we've never been subjected to this practice, but in saying that, we normally don't dine until about 9pm.
Saw you in there Sparky, but was too shy to say hello !!

In the past, we visited O'Lume at it's former site. The usual complaint re lack of customers, atmosphere etc, so we never went back.
This year we decided to try it again. On entering we were met by the young lady who used to look after us so well in Laroc...plus point right away.
We used the courtyard garden, a great addition and then sampled the food.
What can I say....it's now pushing El Posito for second place. Forget most of the complaints made in the past about this place, just try it, you won't be disappointed.

In all three and I must say everywhere else that we dined, our grandaughter was welcomed with open arms...more than can be said for most of the restaurants over here. In two of them, I won't mention their names, when we needed to use the "facilities" for her, we were taken to a quiet part of the restaurant, a table was cleared of cutlery, a towel was provided and our daughter did the nappy change there and then...What service
PS baby wipes were used after re the table surface

I had a quiet chat with Chris in El Posito today after an excellent lunch.
I have told him about the not so good reviews re quality of food and service and he is going to pass this on to Toni and Angie. He admitted that there was a problem one night with the chef overdoing the salt in the seafood/fish dishes but assured me this was a one off and the problem has been addressed.

Nice one Sparky. When we come out on 24th July for two weeks El Posito has to be on our radar along with "the usual suspects that everyone seems to mention!

On place no-one mentions very often is Restaurante Siller, which we found spectacularly good last year, but never seems to be reviewed.

Coming in the school holidays will test my Spanish, booking tables by phone!

Duncan

IMO Siller has priced himself out of the market, but a lovely restaurant all the same. Tried El Posito about 5 times during my recent visit, still up to it's usual high standard. Antoni the cook is a master! There has been the odd complaint over the years of food being too salty, if anyone feels that way then maybe a wee word with Toni/Chris when ordering should sort out the problem.

After our recent visit I have to revise my original choice:

1. O Lume - By a country mile.

2. Los Pescadores.

3. = El Posito, Brisa Marina, C'an Josep.

Sorry, can't really choose between the third placed and I love them all. We ate in El Posito on a Tuesday night and it was chock full and the only table available was on the street. The staff were rushed off of their feet, so obviously couldn't spend much time for hanging around but we never felt rushed. (Although if I do I usually make a point of lingering!). Food was still a very good standard and price (although certainly not cheap) was acceptable for the standard.

Ok Snowy since you have retired scores as they stand on a 3,2 & 1 point system for first, second & third.

Joint first: O'Lume & Stay = 44 points
Second: El Posito = 38 points
Third: Tango = 28 points
Fourth: C'an Josep = 27 points
