Just back from our annual jaunt to Puerto Pollensa and what a fabulous time we had. 
We normally go early July but left it a bit later (Mid August) this year and the place was buzzing!Days were spent either on the beach (opposite the Hotel Romantic) or visiting a couple of other resorts although this year we didn’t travel too far, we had a day in Port de Soller, an afternoon in Can Picafort , 30 minutes in Cala San Vicente and of course some time in the old town. Port de Soller was lovely and well worth a visit if you have never been, Can Picafort was so windy that the beach was closed and every year I think it gets a little bit tackier!
Enjoyed our days at the beach, as usual it was spotless. We took the kids one morning to the beach in CSV for them to enjoy the waves but we didn’t stay. It was filthy, the sand was covered in dog poo, cigarette butts, dirty tissues and lots of other rubbish so we made a hasty exit back down to PP.
When at the beach we ate in La Mainia (apologies for the spelling) which was on the road opposite the Tamarells Beach bar. Food and service here were fantastic, prices were very reasonable and we would definitely recommend the Pa amb oli mixta.
For the 12 days we were in the Port we didn’t have one bad meal but did have a couple of disappointing experiences. Dinner for 3 adults and 1 child (no desserts) with a bottle of house wine at IRU cost us 133 Euros and the standard of food was very poor, in fact it was probably the most unsatisfactory meal of the whole holiday. The other let down was Tolos, we have eaten there a number of times over the past 16 years and although the food is ok the service has always been a bit shambolic. We decided to go back to see if anything had improved and it hadn’t, we felt like we were in a Carry On film. People were seated but not given menus and drinks orders were not taken for 20-30 minutes. A number of people walked out as they were feed up waiting. We had to re-order desserts 3 times as they kept forgetting. Some customers began to get really angry and discourteous with the staff and it all became a bit uncomfortable
Other places we ate in the evening which all served great food included Ca’n Josep, Cellar la Parra, Osteria No 15, Bodega Ferra, Ca’n Torrens and Casa Vila (great food but grumpy waiters). If we had to pick a favourite it would be Cellar la Parra, hubby thoroughly enjoyed the tumbet starter and rabbit main course and my daughter said the pork loin was the best she had ever tasted, our 4 adult main courses, 2 starters and drinks only cost 51 Euros! Ca’n Josep was also particularly excellent and their mixed vegetable starter (chunkier version of tumbet) was just incredible. Due to high season we had to book tables in all of the above but this wasn’t an issue we were able to book most on the same day but it took 3 days to get into Cellar la Parra!
After dinner and Oreo ice cream for the kids from the Kiosk, most evenings were rounded off with drinks at the Miramar where we watched the world go by.
We were staying in Gotmar and I must mention The Hideaway. We stumbled upon it by accident and it only opens Tues, Thurs and Saturdays but if you like music, particularly rock and blues, then I would suggest you go along to hear John Lynam. It also happens to be a very welcoming bar.
Looking forward to next year already.

So we voted with our feet and left. We were thinking of giving another go next month after a couple of good reports - but then again - there are so many other places to try
