Hi Folks, As we are now a good way in to the season what's the feeling on the level of tourist in the port. Ref thread title.

Definitely down on the last few Augusts, speaking to some owners of bars and restaurants, they all said it is down to more like the levels in 2005-06, which I think is a good thing, it got too busy 07-08, having to queue for restaurants, this year it was busy but far more comfortable

Definitely quieter but I agree with SWS97dsg that it is better for it. We have to go in July/August because of school holidays. I think it was noticeable on market days too - especially in Alcudia. It was easier to walk around - still busy but not as bad.

For many years we have been coming the last week in June, first week in July, but this year had to do the last week in July, first week in August.

As this was the first weekend of the English school holidays I was dreading it! Actually, it was a breeze. Flights were (more or less) on time, the bags came off at Palma in record time, and the car hire queue was less than I remember (though a different company, to be fair - always used Goldcar, but Avis this time).

I was actually surprised how quiet it was in the port. A bit busy around Pine walk mid-evening, but by 10-30pm it really quietened down. The old town of Pollensa also seemed quieter than I remember.

Suits me very well....to be honest. Just get rid of the "rowdy" racket that eminates from Lemon Bar, Bar Imperial and that tacky awful Sports Bar and the old place is looking at its best.

It might be better for us, the tourists, when it is quiter in PP and easier to get a table, and not having to queue etc but it's certainly not for the business owners. The more the merrier, I should think, is their philosophy.

Personally, we always go at peak times, July and August, becaue I think there is more of a holiday atmosphere. But I think this July it was definitely a lot quieter. Having said that, we're going back in September, first time we've been twice in one year. It will be interesting to see if there is change in atmosphere out of season.
But busy, quiet, hot or cold, more expensive, less expensive, I really dont mind. Just love the place. 30 days to go!! :)

We were there the same time as Pollpot (1st 2 weeks in July which was a week earlier than we usually go) and it was definately quieter than last year - back out 3rd October:)

Definately feel it was down this year in comparison to 2008 (last week July), not necessarily a bad thing, but I couldn't help but notice that particularly in the square, it was very quiet and seemed to loose a bit of atmosphere. We first visited in 2007 and remember the square with all the market stalls and the volume of people and buzz it brought to it, feel it misses it. Should it be brought back, I thinks so, what about others?

Here, here, lovely to wander round the stalls in the evening, loved all the craft and hand made bits and pieces. Definitely added to the atmosphere.

Am afraid that's the feedback we have been getting. There are some longstanding businesses that have been finding it very hard this year. On the positive front (for them), we have been experiencing a growth in holiday bookings but this may come too late for those businesses which are struggling.
