For fans of the Charles Davis walking books & the excellent detailed map of the island that goes with it (you don't need to be doing the walks!), I've just realised that these have both been updated for 2014. More details at Maps of Mallorca & Books on Walking in Mallorca.

Should anyone buy the books and map, could they do a comparison please between old and new and post whether there is much difference?

Hi roig cat

Below is a recent review on Amazon

Comparing the old and new maps this new map shows substantial updating on roads, developments, golf courses etc. All the walking routes from Walk! Mallorca are clearly highlighted on the map; plus the gpx waypoint files for these routes can be downloaded for free from Discovery Walking Guides website.

Regards

Carl.

My copies of both arrived over the weekend but I'm afraid I don't have the old versions here as they're in Mallorca.

The Map itself is made from that very durable paper! I'm sure that it includes any updates to roads etc. The previous version was dated 2009.

The book itself is quite different as it now covers Mallorca in general and includes updated versions of walks from Mallorca North, Mallorca West & the GR221 Dry Stone Way.

There are now 53 walks in total - I think some inaccessible ones may have been dropped - and the book is organised by level of diffculty (1-5) with each section starting with those West of the Tramuntana (mainly around Soller) followed by the Eastern ones including Pollensa & Alcudia. The 6th section covers the linear stages of the Dry Stone Way.

By the way, The Cala San Vicente walk is level 1, Boquer Valley level 2 & Puig de Maria level 3.

At the end of the book is a cross-reference of the new walks with the walks & numbers from previous books in case you are using the new book with the old map - hope that makes sense.

So if you already have the 2009 versions, the names of the walks are probably the same but some have been updated - even the one to Cala San Vicente (it's called Siller Pass & Serra de la Punta) has been updated & simplified as the previous alternative routes are now overgrown.

If you don't have them, then these, particularly the map, are definitely worth getting from Amazon.

Pollensa, thank you very much. Ill buy both now for our trip in November. Hoping to do one walk in the west this time around S'Arraco area.

That's the one! Ill check out your blog. I want to do lots of walks in the west but reluctant to go to Mallorca and not stay in Pollensa.
