We have lost the one in Port Alcudia, which is a great shame as it is the best ice cream.

I assume that the hut will go, the new shop opens today at 20:00, here is the address :-

It will be interesting to find out what's behind the move as that hut is very iconic. Always immaculately kept and as stated the girls in there are always pleasant, friendly and smiling no matter how long the queues are or the time of day. Maybe an example to a few other establishments in respect to customer service?!
I would assume the hut is sited on council land so could be a lease thing or connected with the proposed redevelopment of the road on the front? Time will tell.

I believe there have been issues with Valls and Cafe 1919 so maybe this has something to do with the move

I can remember when Mr Valls used to ride his pop pop bike up the pine walk and all the kids running out to get Ice Cream Heldos Heldos was the call.
Great days.

They were really busy last night even around 10.30. Can't imagine they would have too many problems just a little further along. Nice friendly girls too.

Don't forget Fred the Bassett hound who belonged to the family. Either snoozing in the shade by the icecream stall by the marina roundabout, or stolling down the back of the Pine Walk resturants, begging scraps food and a bowl of water.

His name was Duque and he was a lovely old boy. He used to wander all around the Port and was especially fond of the market on Wednesdays!
I thought he belonged to the Vila family though not the Valls but I could be wrong

To be honest, I don't know why I think Fred (or Duque, even) was Valls dog.... maybe I am wrong as well.
Doesn't detract from him being a bit of a character

The ice cream hut is iconic, part of the charm and heritage of Puerto Pollensa, IMO.
It’s really sad and significant news that the hut is to be ‘no-more’. Methinks the hut was in place well before Cafe 1919 was created, so a few questions come to mind.
Who owns Cafe 1919, private individual or a corporate group ?
Why can Cafe 1919 seemingly ‘call the shots’ ?
I’m sure the ice cream hut-people will do well in their new shop, but it won’t have the same uniqueness as the hut. Sad news.

I could be wrong but i think Cafe 1919 is part of the Australian Boulevard/Tex Mex group

You're correct Sparky. Grupo Boulevard are a Playa de Muro based corporation.
According to their website, in addition to Luxury Villa sales and rentals, they own the Voss chain of shops seen around the north of the island along with Café 1919, the Dakota and Santa Fe Tex Mex restaurants, C'an Pescador at the start of the Pine Walk, O'Haras and the Australian Boulevard pubs to name but a few.
They also used to own Los Pescadores restaurant on the Pine Walk but redeveloped that into an apartment building now called Edificio Boulevard where a certain famous cyclist now lives a lot of the time.

Yes and they used to have the small Tabac shop opposite Nostalgia but during the winter they sold the licence and now it just sells booze etc .

Flipping heck James! That's a bomb shell to me! Its always a surprise and a bit of a disappointment to find out that places I assumed were individuals are actually part of a "chain" of some sort, and branching out all the time! Makes it hard to know if you are supporting a private enterprise or not!
