We rented in 2011 direct with owner from a property advertised on this site, we have used this site and others to rent direct with the owner and they have been unable to accept credit card payment which I understand as a private owner would hardly have the facilities, also Paypal takes a commission out of total amount of transaction. Private owners we have dealt with have always requested a bank transfer, there has never been an option otherwise

We have private rented for 6 years now, paying by bank transfer and have always had lovely holidays in some amazing properties, the British media are scaremongering at the moment with all their shock reports about holiday fraud, its certainly making me jittery

We are owners and we accept paypal as we are aware that this gives the renter the option and peace of mind. You will always find someone against paypal as well as credit cards but it is a matter of choice.
As I said in my earlier post thousands of properties are rented privately each week. The chances of a scam are very slim in my opinion. It is always good idea to be aware and cautious of course and using a site like this where the majority of advertisers are known is a good idea. Some sites say they verify their owners but from experience this is not often the case. The majority of owners renting out want easy transactions with people they can trust too - it works both ways. I had someone phone the other day who withheld their phone number and refused to give it to me. My response was no thank you - you want me to trust you with my home but you can't trust me with your number! Goodbye! No way would I rent to them!

I'm afraid we live in an age where criminals are everywhere and up to all-sorts. Unless you want to be relieved of your money you have to take sensible precautions.

Scamming is the latest preferred method of crime I think you'll find. That said, we mustn't let the thieves win so do your homework and don't be put off.

To be honest it is my mums villa and she told me about the website and the concern your subscribers had. I was only trying to help! My mum is actually at the villa all week, feel free to go and meet her and a discuss advertising on your site and more importantly see that we are not part of some international criminal gang!

Hi Alistair, i only moderate on this forum and don't deal with the business side of the website, to advertise please follow this link Advertise rentals and businesses on PuertoPollensa.com, we have both UK and local based agents who will deal with your enquiry .
I am sure you are not criminals but obviously the fact that your agent has had not responded to a clients emails and also the change in banking has made them nervous, especially as we often read about internet scams.

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments. Unfortunately I'm still no further forward. It is wonderful that Pollensa has a forum that is able to expose potential issues and also positively promote the honest owners that provide the commercial enterprise that the forum is - whilst hopefully remaining impartial! It is surprising though that it is thought that owners would view this discussion as unfair competitive publicity. From a customers point of view be reassured that its quite the opposite. It is true though that this experience is off putting for any future direct booking. Hopefully all will be well and its all down to communication. Thank you again.

Villa Suenos

Hi all, we too have just booked Villa Suenos for our 2014 family holiday, it has since been removed from the Owners Direct website and we are waiting to here back re confirmation of deposit. Looking to Fay or Alistair for some reassurance. Many Thanks.

Hi Jen Try not to worry too much. Owners Direct are not the best of sites. we advedrtised with them and then removed our villa for various reasons. It could well be the owners too had trouble and have just decided to advedrtise elsewhere. I assume you emailed the owners direct in which case they will have your details and no doubt be in touch with you. In the meantime if you have their personal email or telephone number I would suggest you make contact just to put your mind at rest.
