That's weird. It was reported on the news today that Easyjet have arranged extra flights to help with the back log. Perhaps everyone is waiting it out for the cruise option!

I meant to add that I have a spare Easyjet ticket for Monday 26th April 22:00 Palma-Gatwick

However, I expect the charge to change the name and extra costs does not make it worthwhile for anyone!

easyJet had a big problem with the system that caters for rebooking during the 'no flights' period. Whilst it uses the same database as booking system there is a differant front-end to rebooking. They had to try and rebook over 150,000 entries and they were trying to do whole flights at once!!! They then started rebooking further n front as possible so not have the same problem all over again if the they started flying and had to stop again. Guess that's why there are spare seats all over the place on some flights.

Hi All,

Just returned from Pollensa having spent 5 extra days, and what fantastic days they were, thank you volcano! Have a tan to equal that gained in July!

On a serious note, trying to contact Easyjet re refund of extra days accomodation, I keep getting cut off (surprise) anyone had any joy?

Paid £275 to Villa Parade and moved to a different villa last Saturday. Also AVIS charged 190 euros for extra days car hire! Do you think Easyjet will pay for that??

Employers making me use annual leave week due in May and hubby lost 1 weeks earnings as self employed. Cost a fortune in the end but keeping positive as we did have the best time, could have been much worse!

Thanks! I will report back any news.

Does anyone know if it Is the airline which will pay the claims or is it the airline's insurance company? I was wondering as this week Ryanair decided that they were not going to pay claims but I think have now backed down as the law dictates it is a responsibility.

If it is the airline insurance company I can not understand why there should be a problem. Premiums will be 'sky high' next year though.

If it is the airline then I suppose that may signal the end of cheap flights as I would think there will be a reluctance to allow seats to go for £20 or whatever, if the airline then find themselves paying out huge claims when things go wrong.

Am pretty sure that BA has said they are not insured which is why it is causing such an issue. I know that with passengers own Travel Insurance it depends on whether the insurer defines the incident as bad weather (when you may get some compensation) or Act of God, when you don't. As you say Eleanor I do sympathise with the Airlines & it is bound to affect our flight prices in future. :(

& By the way, we got to PP fine yesterday (only 2 days late). Ryanair did pretty well considering & their 'rebooking' technology worked a lot better than easyjet's.

Jet2 refund paid

Further to my earlier posts re cancelled package holiday with Jet2.com, my bank account has just received the promised full refund from Jet2.:)

I reckon that's pretty good sevice considering what a traumatic time the airline and their customers have gone through.

That said their telesales people seem to be working overtime - had two calls this week trying to get us to book a holiday with them.

As Irish airspace has had a no fly zone this morning, it seems things may be unsettled in the volcano saga. It is according to Sky news 'dormant' at the moment, but things could remain unsettled for the coming months. But I am not a big fan of the media and how they like to sensationalise situations. NATS is now stored in 'my favourites'

When all this flight disruption appeared to be settling down, Mr M said to me..'So what are we going to do if our flight is cancelled?' He meant getting out there, as I don't have an issue with not being able to get back!

Now, considering we had about a month to go before our holiday I told him he was worrying over nothing. He however, had already been thinking of how we could still get there if there were no flights. Now we only have about ten days to go and I wake up to this news this morning about Irish airspace and how 'the cloud' is heading south. :(

So, the loose plan was, get the ferry or Eurostar over to France and drive down (using my car) to Barcelona, and getting a ferry from there. Although I suppose we could leave the car at Barcelona airport and see whether flights were operating from there.

I'm desperate for this holiday this year and will not accept defeat if the situation turns worse in the coming days. I'm just wondering if anyone else has got their contingency plan sorted, or has any ideas to make our plan less painful/tiring! (apart from not going!!).

:)

Don't worry Mearsy! The glass is always half-full:D

Volcanic Ash Worries

Let's hope this new threat blows over quickly and does not cause the same disruption.
7 days and counting!!!!!!!!!!!!

Volcanic Disruption & Travel Insurance

On a similar note we actually received a letter from out Travel Insurers Direct Travel this week saying that ARE covering claims resulting from the Volcanic Ash incidents. "Direct Travel Insurance is treating the ash cloud event as "weather related". We are therefore able to offer cover for customers, who purchased policies on or before Tuesday 13th April, under the following sections (subject to policy limitations):

Section 7 Missed Departure and
Section 8 Delayed Departure or Abandonment"

They state that you should first try your airline/tour operator etc. but then submit any subsequent claims to them. We've used them for several years & had to claim on a complete holiday when I was ill & found them very helpful.

I am not sure how they will treat new propblems & policies purchased after that date, so do check before purchasing new Travel Insurance.

We are in the process of claiming back expensed from Monarch - actually for a trip to Barcelona not to PP but I thought this might help for those who are in the same situation.
Our travel insurance is with NatWest who have been brilliant but will they only pay out up to a maximum of £250. Monarch told us to claim through NatWest initially and then go to them for anything over the maximum £250 limit.
NatWest have said that this is rubbish. Under EU legislation it is the airlines responsibility to repatriate you to the UK if you had a return ticked booked with them and they have to pay for accommodation and subsistence during that time. The expenses should all have receipts and should be reasonable - ie they won't pay for overnight stays at 5* hotels and meals in top class restaurants. So we have sent all receipted expenses to Monarch and will wait to see what they.

Thanks, it's good to hear the reality of the follow up on this. The media travel experts were saying all the way through that it is the airline's responsibility, but then didn't one of them (airline) try to wriggle free of that only to have to back track soon after?

So I suppose it's going to cost them a fortune, but I'm sure they will find a way to get back what they may have lost! I think we'd be stuffed good and proper if we couldn't go at the end of the week. We'd lose near on £800 on the apartment for sure. I think our hotel would be understanding and not charge us anything, and we'd get our flights refunded, but I'm about to order a few Euro tomorrow and we all know how bad the buy back rate is!!

Ho hum! Keeping everything crossed for all of us due out. The forecast yesterday was it blowing back into UK airspace this comming week.

My nephew, his wife and 20 month old daughter were due to fly out yesterday from Gatwick to stay at our place for a week. They phoned to say the flight was cancelled last night..... when they were at the boarding gate!!! All passengers on the flight have been put up in hotels and they are being coached to Stanstead today when hopefully they will be able to fly at 7pm this evening!!!

That's strange debs as there do not appear to be any restrictions in place apart from the north of Scotland.

My wife is due to fly back from Malta into Gatwick later today

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!! That's way too close for comfort :(

It's the (northern) Spanish airports that have had the issues in the last few days. It needs to stay away from Mallorca!
