walking to the port/centre, from south beach end of pp are any of the bars before we get into the centre worth dropping in for a swift one.
cheers

I have to agree with Snowy. Tolos has to be the first watering hole for us and the last on the way home:D Always a warm and friendly welcome from the staff, with an ice cold drink to start another good night out and later a warming night cap to round off another day in PP:)

El Ancla, we started to call in for night cap on way home in October, great prices on drinks too. On Beach road by end of Cala Bot

I wouldnt classify Tolos as a bar, certainly Im not too sure you would be made that welcome taking up one of the outside tables (if you could get one) for a drink only.

IMO, you would be looking at Fletchers, Canblanche or Trotters if its a bar youre looking for. Trotters is a typical British bar which doesnt really do it for me. Fletchers although a Scottish bar welcomes all and has a decent pint. Canblanche I have never been in although they have some live entertainment on at the weekends.

that's a good point you made rab, 6 adults 4 children we don't want to be sitting at a table only for a drink when people are looking to sit down for a meal, we will check out the bars you have named from your post, but also as we will eating out most nights if we get a seat and the food looks good well why move on.
cheers

I really don't think most bar/restaurants along the front would mind at all if you just wanted a quick bevvy!!

Tolos in particular have always been happy just to serve us drinks and most of the places on the front would be the same I'm sure. And as you say benjoe once you get ensconced if the food looks good you can always stay and make a night of it ;)

steak in tolos is very good actually

Depends what time of the year Debz, in August when all the places along the front are packed, they wont be to pleased just to serve you drinks when people are waiting for tables to eat

I disagree sws we have never been turned away from any restaurant in PP if we just wanted a drink, even in August. If you just want a quick drink and don't expect to sit for hours over it your custom should be welcome...that's been our experience anyway. I can't think of anywhere, apart possibly from Maxims, that would stipulate you had to eat or they wouldn't serve you.

We have never had a problem. Early morning coffee, Lunchtime drinks, off the beach heading for the shower drinks, pre evening meal warm up and nightcaps no problemo.
There is a small bar area inside from where I have yet to see Tolo turn away trade when there was a vacant seat left! In fact I'm certain he'd nip out the back and drag a few old tables and chairs and stick them out front if he thought it might tempt you into staying for a meal!
I agree it would be a bit selfish to block up a table during the early evening meal time.
But this thread is "Walk into town which bars" isn't it? Maybe I am wrong in thinking "walk into Town...." meant just that IE places to stop at for a drink on the way into town:o
Trust me to get that wrong.......Sorry:o

If there is ten of you I honestly dont think Tolos would be a wise choice unless as Rob says you want to sit inside but tbh I wouldnt think you would as inside is not really a bar where there is a dedicated bar seating area.

Trotters or Fletchers is probably your best bet if you want a wee bit of atmosphere and a couple of pints before hitting the restaurants. I find Trotters a wee bit smokey and a bit "cliquey" whereas Fletchers do not allow smoking at the bar and are welcoming.

Another bar nobody mentioned and which might be "up your street" is Bar Imperial which has live entertainment most nights and has a terrace which although a wee bit tight would take the ten of you no problem. It is purely a bar with no food being served and the beach is directly across the road if the kids are too embarrased at the adults singing along to Elvis.

I would class the Bar Imperial as being in town not on the way.
Whats the bar on the beach called (old age thing) thats on the way in and nice place to stop off.

I know where you mean Snowy, but just cant visualise the name. It is best just slightly out of season I think, you can sit outside under the terrace effect, or inside looking out to sea if its a bit chilly. We had a few jugs of sangria and a good lunch there with only the hardened cyclists braving it outside, then went for a walk along the new nature path. Bad idea after so much to drink and a fit of the giggles! It's well used in season though obviously!

.

The only problem with the 2 bars you mention is that outdoor seating is limited and right on the road, a better bet would be can balache large terrace on pedestian street and very good prices, 3.50 euros for a G&T last summer :)

I think this year, they will all be even more welcoming than normal, and if ten of you turn up for drinks theyll ask if youve got any more mates to bring with you!
