Oh yes, so it does! But doesnt it look pretty too. Unfortunately it does show up the "blobs" more though!:o

What is that tiny light in the sky - its 10.45 now. I thought it was a plane yesterday but its there again now and just staying there. Is it a satellite?

Bella,

Sorry to be a killjoy to the " romance in your soul " but it's a UFO.

Just an Unidentified Frying Object in Burger King !!!!!

BonysLad :D:D

I think you are right sparky. The Pole Star, I always call it the North Star, but think it's the same one, is always shining over the bay. It is much brighter and larger than all the others stars.

Hi Debz, yes i also call it the "North Star" :) and always look for it when i go out at night. By the way the moon shining across the water in the bay last night made a stunning pic....shame i didn't have the camera with me.

Romance is alive and kicking but I think it's a satellite! A "North Star" by any other name , who cares, it's pretty!:)

Sorry to go off topic but the moon will be large tonight as it is passing by it closest to the earth in 18 years.

Twinkle, twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are ?

Come on Gals, smell the coffee and don't ever get in the passenger seat of the Bonymobile beside me with a map !!!! ( Ok, I realise you'd rather pull your own teeth out ).

Just fail to see how a camera panning southwards from East to West could ever pick up the Pole Star ( or true north ).

It's probably Sirius , the brightest star in the southern sky during the Spring period . Quite a little belter IMO.

Yours in pedrantry

BonysLad ;);)

Just keep worrying about fluffy little kittens and what shoes to pack for PP and leave the important stuff like the earth's position in the Universe to the guys like Gordon & Moi !!!!!

A) I said it wasn't a star, and Im still not convinced it is
B) I have mentioned nothing about kittens or shoes in this thread
C) If its a satellite, I wouldnt need a map as it would help with the SatNav
and D) ......

A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of their learning.

Shame you didn't quite manage the correct spelling of it though!!:D

Thanks for the info GL. Read it whilst being driven home and made a point of looking at it ..... HUGE!!

BL i bow to your superior knowledge but Gordon the moon doesn't look any bigger here tonight, maybe it's because i am further south. :D;)

I don't want to fall out Sparky but the moon was much bigger the last couple of nights. We first noticed it Friday night when it rose from the East at about 7pm and then we looked out again last night at the same time and it is noticeably bigger. If you get up earlier this afternoon and wander down to the beach for about 7 you'll see what we mean! If you want, I'll take a pic and send it you.

LOL!! :D, Tonsyl i was looking at it at 1am after a few vinos so the eyes may have been a bit out of focus ;).

Touche , Bella

Fraid me tongue was so far in me cheek I couldn't get the word out right !!

BonysLad ;)

Anyway here comes the sun cos tonight daylight hours exactly equal night hours so we'll all be thinking of the sun to come. Hopefully the old stars will be a dim and distant memory .:)

Yes, we do have a 'Supermoon' at present. Biggest as it first rises from the horizon.
This from today's 'Mail on Line'.

"Look to the skies tonight and you might just notice something different. For the first time since 1992, a 'super moon' is shining down on us. That means it is brighter and closer to Earth than unusual".

(Read more: Super moon: Amazing pictures of the lunar planet... the nearest it has been to Earth for 20 years | Mail Online)

Regarding the 'star / satellite'.
I believe it is Saturn we can see in the South-East sky at present - the brightest.
(At least it is in England... presumably same in P.P.)

As I was up at 4am today with my little grandson I can vouch that the moon was indeed very bright. I even checked to see if the security light in the garden was on ..it wasn't but the moon was really bright! How do you explain to a little lad, age 1 year and two days that it's not morning and he should go back to sleep for a little while?!

A very bleary eyed Debz today ;)

Re the 'star' that isn't,is the planet Saturn. Its only been hanging up there for a few billion years!Patrick Moore would not be impressed that it seems to have remained unnoticed for so long. If you have a pair of binoculars or telescope you will be able to see to its left some of its moons.
Pedantarily yours Rob

Can see a pink flash now on the webcam just landing in the sea!

Think it's a meteorite or possibly Halley's comet ;)
