hWhen in PP last week , I was amazed to see that the building next door to Don Corleone and across the way from the Hotel Diana was no more and that a building site had replaced it.

And I was enen more annoyed that I couldn’t remember what used to be there …… for goodness sakes I have known and loved he Port for the last 20 odd years …. But I just can’t remember

So what was it ?

Always use to be the best bar in town for locals and holiday makers alike, until the Daina bought it and turned it into a pizzaria !

It was very popular meeting point for a night cap and in a great location but I think the guests at the Daina complained about the noise, hence the hotel buying it.

I wonder what it's going to become now?

Yes cd. We saw that too last Friday and for the lives of us couldn't remember what it had been.

El Castinet sounds about right, with the maroon awnings and Director chairs was it?

And that was before the glass of wine in Cafe 1919!:eek

I recall mini bottles of cava served with a straw at Castinets but for the past 2 years since they tried their hand at being an eaterie (never ate there - did anyone?) they have had a very acceptable Spanish guitarist and it was lovely to sit at the Daina :lol and listen to him (with a small libation.) Especially on a warm September night with the stars above, an Irish coffee and the resort much quieter... pity it's gone for that reason alone. Hope not just more apartments/ tex mex/ another Chinese restaurant. :eek Why can't they just leave things alone - nuts to progress!

Certainly beat the dodgy music the Daina used to have. Any one remember "Jay and Vanessa" who used to sing songs from the shows down at the waterfront in a kinda middle of the road, emarassingly enjoyable sort of way? Where are they now? They have left us and we now must resort to sitting on the wall opposite Bar Imperial to get our share of taking the mick at the dreadful Elvis impersonators :lol

It was called El Casinet not Castinet.

Now I know what a castinet is but don't know what casinet means :rolleyes

All I can think of is 'small house' derived from the word casa. Does anyone know?

Didn't notice that Debs - how observant!

We always called it "Castanets" because we were friendly with a few of the staff at the Singala Hotal for a couple of years and that's what they affectionally called it. One of them was a local - could it be that this is Mallorcan for castanet maybe? :rolleyes Just a thought - probably wrong! :lol

Lala: Vanessa was expecting a baby when we last saw them in 2006 and haven't seen them since, I know they lived somewhere near Alcudia, i think.
