Strike action in airport bars/restaurants.

The 95% of bar workers from Palma airport this morning have supported the strike called by the council of areas, concession of 21 eateries at Son Sant Joan, to advocate improvements in their wages and social.
The strike, planned for the entire weekend, has been carried out by 113 of the 120 employees of the morning shift from Palma airport bars, to protest the "anti-union practices that are suffering," as has UGT reported today in a statement.
Tracking unemployed for last night was total as the waiters of the four cafes that remain open on the night shift have exercised their right to strike, the union added.

CSMA Club Magazine

Anyone out there who are members of the Civil Service Motoring Associaton (CSMA), have an 'aah, oh to be back in PP' moment coming through the letterbox.
There is a nice three page spread on Mallorca in the new issue of the CSMA Club Magazine.
Sort of 'How I avoided the football shirts and Irish Bars and found the original unspoilt Mallorca'.
PP gets a mention -

Eh, what? Is this a case of time travel? Isn't this from 2001? What's going on?
 
Well Lyn, it appears The Mail knows something that no one else is reporting. Isn't this a tell-tale part of the report: "Majorca welcomed around 2.1 million Britons in 2000, while 700,000 travelled to Ibiza and 650,000 to Menorca."

It looks to me as though something has gone awry with their website.
 
I do hope so Andrew, have to say i thought it was odd that there has been nothing in the local press about a strike. Just goes to prove you can't believe everything you read in the papers ;).
 
Just shows that journalists should put a date published at the start or end of every article online... :D

It does get top google hits for ' palma coach strike' but looks to be very old.

Just shows you cant believe what you read in the newspapers ;)

Easyjet say 'today' but not the date that 'today' is !

When google finds it people read 'today' as meaning 'today' as in right now.

Should we cancel and go to Tenerife as I dont want to be delayed in queues of thousands of people at Palma :confused: :D
 
Second driest summer in 60 years; evenrainy autumn won’t make up water loss
Madrid.— “Not even an autumn with plenty of rain will make up for the shortage,” National Weather Agency (Aemet) spokesman Alejandro Lomas said yesterday.
Lomas said that only the average rainfall for the summer of 1994 was less than the figure for this year. He explained that the particularly dry summer has made the ongoing shortage of rainfall more accute.
At 12th September, the average figure for accumulated rainfall from the previous 1st October stood at 400 litres per square metre, 37 percent less than the average level for this period.

University bomb foiled

Don't know if folks have caught up on the news of the police having foiled a possible bombing of the university in Palma. The boy who's been arrested seems to have been a bit a loner and had thought to emulate the Columbine massacre in the US. 140 kilos of explosives had been acquired over the internet, but the police had been monitoring the boy for weeks. Could have been awful.
 
Yes scary stuff Andrew especially as i know a few who attend the UIB in Palma, it has obviously been shown on Spanish TV news :mad:. He is a 21 year old Spaniard who it seems was a bit of a loner, i have found this link on the BBC website BBC News - Police 'foil plot to bomb Spain's Balearic university'.
This also makes you realise that what we post on the internet is being monitored :eek: but in this case that really is a good thing ;).

According to the DDM the parking charges in the Port are to stop before the end of the season (ie. the end of October), it seems that it's because they have already made enough money to cover their costs and also because there are not that many tourists about.
However the article does not say exactly when the charges will cease :confused:.
 
As you might know its Spain's national day and as Sparky pointed out a holiday, so along side the move of La Ruta to tonight and Spain playing football in a world cup qualifying, great reasons to be in PP today, have a great time around the port tonight everyone lucky enough to be over there!

Saw filming at Lidl today - does anyone know if it was for the Russian "Mad Bitches" ? If not - does anyone know what else it might have been for ?

Not sure, They where also filming at Lidl on Friday night in the dark with lots of lights.

I was slightly told off for taking pictures today ( Sunday) :o

No sign anywhere that said 'no photography' or 'filming in progress' , cars arriving at the carpark do not automatically know what is going on.

It would not have taken 1 minute for one of the many staff to printout a sign, in the 'tents' along the road there where people printing out scripts and stuff on laser printers but no one thought to make any signs.:rolleyes:
