Thanks Mark - did wonder if they would object to photos being taken. My phone/camera was too hard to get at for security reasons going to the supermarket - so I didn't take any. Was mayhem in the car park - we had to park in the street next to these vans.

Concern over the demolishing of houses along the Pine Walk area has been reported in the DDM :-

Between the left image and the right half of the year. The first is still standing still as a typical Mallorcan coast chaletito as were built during the first half of the twentieth century. The second shows the vacant after construction was demolished earlier this summer. This is the Port de Pollença, a place that according Ark is losing its personality and its architectural heritage.

See the story here and pic here :- Un chalet típico derruido en la zona costera del municipio - Diario de Mallorca

The picture showing the 'Chaletito' and the empty building plot does look awful - no getting aay from that. It wouldn't have looked as bad at all if something decent (and definately sympathetic, be it modern or traditional) had been built in its place straight away after demolition.
There are a lot of similar sites all over the place (not just in PP), presumably due to the world wide recession we have had / are still having.
I know of many a site here in the UK where exactly the same thing has happened.
Along the Pine Walk is the beautiful traditional white 'Chalet' (more of a villa in fact) that was very extensively and very expensively renovated about 2 years ago. Heard at the time that it possibly belonged to some 'titled' family, definately Spanish, not someone from the UK?

ESRA North makes presentation to ASNIMO
Pollensa.—When ESRA North supported the idea of a Family Fun Day in aid of ASNIMO (The Balearic Association for Downes Syndrome), little did they realise just how much fun would be had at the event, which was held on September 9th.
Adults played children’s games and children competed for gold silver and bronze medals, just like in the Olympics.
Over 130 people attended the event.
The Family Fun Day was organised by Brian Lowndes, and so it seemed most appropriate that Brian should present the cheque for €1700, the proceeds from the event.
Members of ESRA North went to the ASNIMO headquaters in Marratxi this week, and were welcomed to the centre by Carmen Crespo, the Administradora of ASNIMO.
They were then treated to a guided tour of the facilities, and were introduced to many of the people with Downes Syndrome who use the centre.
Suddenly the Family Fun Day took on a different meaning.
The centre is delightful establishment, where people gain meaningful skills and knowledge, enabling them to live a life which many of us take for granted, and to develop as valued individuals.
It was a pleasure to meet such dedicated members of staff, and such a delightful group of students.
Well done ESRA North, and well done ASNIMO!

Read this in the DDM Pollença obtiene casi 300.000 euros de Madrid gracias a la declaración patrimonial de la Serra - Diario de Mallorca

Pollença gets almost 300,000 euros in Madrid thanks to the declaration of assets of the Serra.

J. FRAU The declaration of the Serra de Tramuntana as World Heritage by UNESCO, issued in June 2011, is beginning to translate into benefits that go beyond simple promotional label. Or at least in Pollença, which is poised to become the first municipality of Serra to get a financial reward linked directly to its location in the mountain area of Mallorca.
Nord Township will receive € 286,000 from central government to undertake two ambitious asset improvement projects: Calvari reform and bows claustre Sant Domingo. They are the two most important projects of the four that the city of Madrid had sent Pollença to direct funding for its integrated township status in an area declared as world heritage.
The General Division of Historical Heritage Protection central government has accepted the proposals that had been submitted Pollença Council to access the call for project grants for conservation, protection and dissemination of goods declared as world heritage.
Mayor 'pollencí', Tomeu Encrypt (PP), reported this fact to Municipal Corporation in the city last Thursday, while noting that, for now, it is a "provisional decision" that if there are no arguments against, shall become final.
addition to the two projects that have taken advantage of financial assistance, the City had requested financial support for the empowerment of a cultural route by the municipality and the composition of an anthem of the Serra de Tramuntana, projects that have not been selected by that overall sub.
Encrypt appreciates the fact that Pollença is carried almost 300,000 euros of the total two million euros that the government had planned to heritage projects in aid of the Spanish State. Finally, the intervention Calvari receive the amount of 245,000 euros, which will cover the entire project, while the reform of the arches of the cloister has been funded with 41,000 euros, not enough to develop the entire project you want to run the City , so the sum must complete its own funds.
Both projects funded must be completed by June 2013, when the mayor considered "sufficient" for execution.
The Calvari, the most visited
The rehabilitation project Calvari assembly is the most ambitious. The City Council had already presented the Plan of Works and Services of the Consell, which this year will not provide any funding for greenfield projects. The equity line of support from the central government will be a second chance for the beautification of the most visited tourist enclave town of Pollença.
municipality's intention is to solve the famous steps of the Calvary, composed of 365 steps, put the esplanade at the top of the hill, from which you get spectacular views of the people, and paved the road that leads to the rear area of Pollença Roman bridge.
Regarding intervention project in the cloister of Sant Domingo, is intended to correct degradation 'seas 'which are composed of arcs. The council 'pollencí' intends to add more money to the central government starting to "go beyond" the project itself and "leave the most glittering Claustre" according Cifre.
Mayor considered "very" positive "the fact that the central government "has assessed the situation of Pollença and recognized World Heritage status of the Serra".

From Encuentran una seta de 1,2 kilos en Pollença - Diario de Mallorca, there is a picture of it and it looks very strange.

The municipality will next summer with two beaches suitable for pets.

J. FRAU Pollença Council intends to amend Bylaw pet for two beaches in the municipality, specifically those of Llenaire and Cala Carbo, is fitted for that bathers can bring their pets, which is now prohibited by the regulations.
Thus, the municipal institution seeks to fulfill a local and tourist demand, since many visitors who are pet owners and that, before choosing the holiday destination, make sure you can move to the beach with their pets. In this sense, the Councillor for Environment and Tourism Police, Maria Buades, said yesterday that a tour operator specializing in travel destinations with pets, Guide4dogs, is in contact with the city since last March to "make this initiative possible" and start promoting Pollença as suitable destination for pet owners.
Llenaire beaches and Cala Carbo (located in Cala San Vincente) are most appropriate, according to the Consistory, to launch the initiative by its family and because "and are frequented regularly by users with pets."
Buades highlights that enabling these beaches so they can access pets will require only a small investment in signaling. The councilor says the Consistory and works to promote these beaches as places fit for animals and will work jointly with the municipality hoteliers to publicize the initiative.
The councilor informed of these efforts in the last full, which Alternative per Pollença had to withdraw a motion that argued the need to have at least one pet beach and proposed Cullerassa Can Beach as a "test pilot ". However, Maria Buades criticized the "lack of documentation" of the motion because this beach is located in the area of natural Reseva Albufereta, where a program of protection of a bird, the 'Tiruril menut · lo', that is in danger of extinction, so that the presence of animals could be detrimental to the breeding of this bird.
Alternative councilor criticized the full day wait for "loading" the motion, when it was recorded weeks ago.

I have just read an article in the DDM, the google translation is a bit dodgy but basically it says that the Pollensa council have called on the Costas to help with repairing and maintaining the Pine Walk. There was some serious damage done in last weeks storms with 4 large trees being blown over and 8 boats were washed up onto the beach.
The council have had people and equipment down there to clear up the debris, remove the boats and push the sand back onto the beach. They plan to put up wind breaks along with planting vegetation on the Tamarells area and also to return the sea grass which was removed for the summer.

The story can be read here Pollença insta a Costas a solventar los graves daños del paseo Voramar - Diario de Mallorca.

We went for a walk along the pine walk the day after the storm -there was sand everywhere and a a quite large motor boat with a hole in it's hull (if that's the right term) smashed onto the wall. We had given up on the market on the Wednesday thinking that it wasn't very safe as the stalls kept blowing over and pieces of stray metal kept swinging from the stands. When we got back to the apartment a tree had snapped in two and had landed on the patio below ours:eek:

Pollensa council have called on the Costas to help with repairing and maintaining the Pine Walk.

Excuse the ignorance, but who or what are the Costas? It's not something to do with Costa Coffee is it?
